SHOPPING FOR A NEW COMPUTER

Like is mentioned a while back I was working in ENTRECARD and something got into my computer and that was it. DEAD, GONE, KAPUT'S and NOT WORKING. I was going to take it in to see how much it would cost to fix it but said to myself, self, now is a good time to look for that laptop you have always wanted.
Not so easy. What make, what do I want on it, where do I look and so forth. I started out going to Wal-Mart and from there to Costco to Sams Club to Best Buy to Office Max to Meijer and finally to going out of business Circuit City. My wife taught me well. She would always go to all available stores. Come to find out that they are all priced about the same. Best Buy was a little higher than the rest and their extended service contract was a lot higher. Coming home and comparing everything I had written down, it looks like the winner is Wal-Mart.
With the weekend so close I think I will wait for the Sunday sale papers and see what kind of deals they hold.

IT HAPPENED!!!!!!!

Yes, it happened. I was working on ENTRECARD Friday night dropping on my favorite people. I saw something that I did not recognize but clicked on it anyway. The screen that it brought up showed song titles, dates but the dates were back in the
80's or so. As I recall I didn't see another widget to click on so I went to the upper right hand corner to close it. Nothing happened. I hit escape and did all other usual things to get out of the window but it didn't move. So as a last resort I shut it down from the tower and went to bed. Next morning when I went to sign on, nothing came up. I couldn't get on. I am now using my daughters computer and am now afraid to click on any new widgets that appear on ENTRECARD.
Don't know how much is it going to cost to get my computer fixed. I've always wanted a laptop. Maybe this is a good time.

OH WHAT A BEUATIFUL MORNING, OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY.

Remember those words? They come from a song from a musical of years past. The reason I mention them is that today, February 7, 2009 is just that. Makes you want to get out and do yard work.
When I woke this morning at 8:00 it was already 48 degrees and now at 3:30 it is a whopping 61 degrees here in Schererville Indiana. Get out of the house as I see many others are doing by taking a walk around our lake or just sitting outside. As for me, I have some of my windows open to get a little fresh air in the house. I have TURNED OFF THE FURNACE to give my gas bill a break. Tomorrow may not be as nice. Weather man says high of 38 degrees. He also says there will be another high 50's day coming Tuesday. Looking forward to that one too.
This is just a short note to let you know how nice it is here for mid-winter.

It all started Sunday during the third quarter of the Super Bowl. It was a 30 second ad that was not fancy but it had powerful words to it. It said you could get a FREE GRAND SLAM BREAKFAST AT DENNY'S. In case you don't know a Grand Slam breakfast includes two eggs, two sausage links, two bacon strips and two pancakes. The company reported 14 million hits on it's website between Sunday night and Monday morning. I don't understand why you would visit the website when the ad says it all. FREE BREAKFAST. In Northwest Indiana the restaurants started serving the free breakfast's a 6 a.m. until the promotion ended at 2 p.m.. People here stood in lines that wrapped around the building, waiting for up to two hours in the frigid cold. Was it worth it? Most people said they would do it again.
The company anticipated that up to 2 million people shared in this free meal. Good for you Denny's. Next challenge is to see what restaurant chain will give away a free steak dinner. Any takers?

LITTLE HERO

Let's forget about the nail biting football game of yesterday and reading about the 4 year old hero that saved his mothers life and was given the first Kid Award in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This young hero's name is Alex Hayes.
It seems that Alex found his mother lying at the bottom of the stairs unconscious after she had lost her balance and fell. This young man called 911 and sang a song to the 911 dispatcher. The song was his address that his mother had taught him when they moved into their new home 9 days before the accident occured. Some kids don't know their address or telephone number at an older age even if they lived in their home for years.
Alex Hayes is truly a hero. God Bless him.
It's good to see news articles like this one which are usually pushed back to bring us the news of murders, rapes or robberies. Let's put those on the back burner and bring forward all of the good ones.

TROUBLE IN IRELAND

If you own any Waterford Crystal hold on to it because it might have gone up in value. The company in Waterford Ireland that makes this beautiful and expensive crystal has been closed by bankruptcy officials because it is debt-crippled. The factory was shut down Friday provoking a furious response from workers who jostled security guards and vowed to stay in the world famous workplace indefinitely. Union leaders warned that more that 200 workers would refuse to leave the factory located in the city of Waterford until the receivers handling Waterford Wedgwood PLC's bankruptcy proceedings reversed the decision to close the factory.
