DELANEY AT THE HOSPITAL

Today was a trying day. I arose at 5:45 am, showered and shaved, got dressed and waited to my daughter, Julie and Delaney to arrive at my house at 6:30 which they did. Today was a big day for Delaney, she was having her Tonsils and Adenoids taken out in the Outpatient section of the hospital. We arrived by 7, which is the time they told us to be there, and of course waited a while before being called. When this happened the three of us followed the nurse to a little room equipped with a bed and other hospital things. Delaney was put into a childs hospital gown, footies and hair net. So begins the wait. Fifteen minutes later a nurse arrived to take vitals and asked Delaney what kind of a mask she would like to put her too sleep with, a spaceman or scuba diver. She chose the scuba diver. The nurse told her they were going diving and would see all kinds of beautiful fish. Next the the doctor came to see her and see if Julie had any questions. He said the whole thing would take about 45 minutes. We went into the waiting and watched Oprah on her road trip and had coffee. After 45 minutes has gone by you start looking for the doctor to come out and talk to us. After an hour you start wondering if everything is OK (im sure you know how that is). He finally came out and said everything was fine and we could go see her. Of course she was still sleeping. It was 10:00 so I told Julie I was going to watch my favorite TV program" THE PRICE IS RIGHT" with Bob Barker. Ten minutes later Julie comes out and says Delaney is awake and doesn't want her, she wants her grandpa. I went in and watched her eat her popsicle. She was not happy that she didn't go scuba diving and see fish. She said they lied to her, so to brighten her mood the nurse gave her stickers, crayons, hair net, gloves, medicine cups and a pretend syringe so she could play nurse at home. After an hour she was released but she wanted to stay because she liked it there. The nurse finally convinced her that she would have more fun at home.
Delaney is fast asleep on my couch and maybe having dreams of scuba diving or being a nurse. God bless her for what she had to go thru and making mom and grandpa a nervous wreck.
Well so long til the next blog.
