CABELA'S LAYING PEOPLE OFF
Cabela's, the great sporting good store chain came to Hammond Indiana. They wanted this, they wanted that plus all sorts of tax breaks. We are bringing jobs to the area was one of the things they said and they did. They hired 420 employees to handle the expected throngs of people which now they say never came. Guess what? Now they say they are not making enough money at the Hammond store and are going to lay off 40 people. Besides these 40 people 130 more have left since the store opened in October 2007. The article also stated that they plan on opening 2 more stores this year. My question is if you are losing money why open more stores. Just to close them? I've seen this same thing happen at the place I worked and it only benefits the higher ups. Let them cut their salaries to make ends meet.

JOHNNY BROKE HIS LEG
Johnny broke his leg. Yes he did. You might be saying a lot of people brake legs. Well Johnny is not a person, he is a dog, a little Mexican dog who weighs in at about 3 pounds if that. My son-in-law thinks he may have hit him with his truck. Would Johnny still be here if he got hit by a truck. Well anyway he had to have a pin put in his leg, with a dog that size why didn't they use a staple. At any rate the procedure cost my daughter a whopping $340.00 to have this done. What would it have cost up in this neck of the woods. I wouldn't want to guess at that one. The operation went well and Johnny is at home relaxing in his cage so he can't walk around. The doctor said he heal up just fine and be good as new.

DEBBIE UPDATE - GOOD NEWS
In an e-mail from Debbie's sister I was informed that when her daughter went to see her today Debbie woke up. Although still drugged her daughter asked her to open her eyes, which she did. They didn't focus but she did open them. She asked her if she loved her and Debbie nodded. When touched on her arm she nodded that she could feel the touch. It's a step in the right direction. STILL SNOWING
As I wrote last night my granddaughter was looking for a delay or a day off due to the snow. It is still snowing and we have about six inches on the ground. THINKING OF SPRING
As I sit here and type this post the snow is coming down at a pretty fast pace, my mind is not here but months ahead thinking of Spring. Yes Spring. That is when the campground opens, April 15, and I get to see all of my camping friends again. There will be hugs and kisses, enjoy kissing the young girls, idle chatter and of course the sitting around the campfire telling stories of the past six months and finding out what is new in every body's lives. Can't wait to see how big my neighbors little boy Zane got. He's a cuttie. These are the things that get me through winter, especially being alone as some of you know the feeling. I have a huge Redbud tree in front of my camper that my wife wanted and each year it is more beautiful than the last when it blooms. I only wish she were here to see it although deep down inside I know she does see it.

NIGHT OF ANTICIPATION
Well it's snowing again. I didn't even know it was going to snow until I treated myself to lunch at the Old Country Buffet and heard people talking about it. Did shopping so I don't have to worry about running out of something. My granddaughter went to bed to night as jumpy as a snowman by a hot stove, wondering how much snow we were going to get. Not that she cares. The big thing is will there be a two hour delay or no school at all. It's as Santa was coming again. Needless to say she is hoping for the second option, no school. We'll just have to wait and see. My concern is shoveling a place in the year for the dog to do her stuff. It's coming down pretty good right now. All I can say is that I get e-mails from her husband and at this time there is very little improvement. Her new lung still has a lot of fluid. Her husband met with transplant surgeons this morning. I do not know the outcome. Please keep praying for her.
4:00 PHONE CALL
I have written a previous post about the snow and my granddaughter hoping for a snow day. It is now 12:15 am and the snow is still coming down at a good pace. It is the type of snowfall that looks like feathers falling from the sky. The tree branches are covered with about two inches and it looks like a winter wonderland outside. I know I can expect a 4:00 phone call advising of either no school or two hour delay. Being retired, I don't have to go out in the snow in the morning but I wish those of you who have to the best of luck and be careful out there.

Her daughters tried to get her so respond in some manner by teller her they were both pregnant, this brought a flutter of her eyelids but that was about all. PRAYING FOR DEBBIE
Not much has changed since my last post. As a matter of fact the doctors think she may have had a stroke. They will look into this.
Three other people have had lung transplants since saturday and are doing very well. Sitting up and talking and being taken out of the ICU unit to a general room with intentions of going home next week. Debbie is far from this. Keep praying for her.

SPENCER'S FOOD FIGHT
It was a quiet day in the lunchroom of the Shiner, Texas school where my grandson Spencer goes. The temperature outside was 84 degrees with a nice breeze but inside it was a little warmer. The future leaders of our country who are now in the first, second and third grade were eating their lunch and enjoying the time away from class. The calm was broken when a grilled cheese sandwich went sailing thru the air and found it's target, a young man by the name of Jason. Did he retaliate? Yes he did returning fire with a fully loaded cheeseburger as did others at his table. Spencer being proud of his shot was bragging that he cast the first stone and fired again with a piece of pineapple. Soon others got into this food fest and it took some time to settle these future leaders down. When asked who started it, all fingers pointed to my grandson Spencer. Mom got a call from the principal asking permission to give him five swats on the butt with the paddle for his starting the food fight. Spanking is allowed in Texas with the permission of the parent. Mom not believeing what she was hearing said no to the spanking and she would take care of it when he got home. I must say Spencer spent a considerable amount of time standing in the corner and doing extra choirs around the house. He really is a good boy. VERY RELAXING DAY
Although the weather here was cold I still got out of the house for a while because cabin fever was setting in. Where did I go? Probably places that wouldn't interest most of you but I got there to see I can find things to sell on eBay. Yes on eBay. Being old and retired I have to do other things besides blog. I went to some Thrift Stores in search of treasures and treasures I did find, one being a large bag of Sesame Street small figures, Disney figures and others I don't know who they are yet. There must be a hundred pieces in this bag. I'm thrilled. Another treasure I found was a huge car with Goffey in a car and the bag he came in is just chuck full of pieces and other animals. I haven't opened it yet but am biting at the bit to open it. I keep telling myself, one thing at a time, one thing at a time. Maybe tomorrow. Naaah. After I found my treasures I treated myself to lunch at McDonalds. Say an attractive women at the table next to me. Almost talked to her. The only thing that stopped me was that her husband showed up. Oh well. After I ate I came home and read the paper. Great Day.

DEBBIE UPDATE
For all you wonderful people who are following the Debbie posts, I received the latest update last night and things are still improving. They were able to reduce her oxygen to 50% yesterday which is down from 100% the day before.. She is now on dialysis which the doctors are still saying that it will be a short term thing. She is now showing more neurological signs such as moving her eyelids and was able to raise her arm by herself. They are going to try and bring her out of sedation today and see how she does with it. The really good news is that the transplant surgeon said on Sunday night he had considered her as having no chanceof survival. Now he has changed his mind and says at this point it is at 50%.

POWER OF PRAYER HELPS
I heard word from my friend this morning telling me that her sister Debbie who had the lung transplant had a turnaround late yesterday afternoon and her new lung is functioning at 70%. The doctors are at a loss for words as to why it had such a fast recovery. She still has problems with her kidneys and will start dialysis today and the doctors think it will be a short term situation.
Does the power of prayer work? What do you think. If you looked at my post yesterday and said a prayer I want to say thank you and God bless you. Please keep praying for her full recovery.

POWER OF PRAYER
I am asking anyone out there to please join me in praying for two of my friends. One is Debbie and she has just had a lung transplant a few days ago and at this point things are not going too well. After the transplant certain complications set in and as of this morning her kidneys are not functioning properly. They were going to put her on the list for another lung but with the kidney problem may stop this from happening.
The other person is my friend Barb. Barb just had a stem cell transplant and at this point with all the antibiotics they put into you when they do this, she is very sick. Hopefully each day will get better for her as it did my wife. I pray that this procedure works for her.
I am asking that you take a moment from your day and say a prayer for these two wonderful people.

AIDDIN THE SHOOTER
As I have mentioned before in my other blot, http://ladyandie.blogspot.com, I have two grandsons in Texas. This particular story embarassed his mother to no end. She had to pick up a few things at the local Dollar Tree stock and thought as long as Spencer, the older brother, was in the car, she would leave both Aiddin (3) and Spencer in the van so she wouldn't have to deal with the boys saying I want this or I want that. Maybe she should have taken them with her. In the parking lot the van was parked at a angle to the store and the highway. As she approached the van she could see a stream of water(?) coming out of the van in a perfect arc. As she got closer she could see Aiddin, pants down, facing the highway doing his thing. Being a small town there isn't much traffic that goes by the store but those who did blew their horn in approval as to what this little guy was doing. That a boy Aiddin.

SPENCER THE MUDDER
For Spencers birthday I bought him a battery powered dirt bike. Something that he has always wanted. It's pretty neat, gets up to 15 mph and gives him a lot of fun. Well being that he lives in Texas and the temperature is 87 degrees he can be in his swim suit and have the hose running in the yard. Well the other day he deceided to go mudding with his dirt bike. He let the hose run in one spot until it good and wet and muddy. He then got on his dirt bike and proceeded to run back and forth through this mud puddle with the hose spraying upward and water coming down as if it were raining. He did this to keep the ground wet. About a half hour later mom came out to see what he was doing and all she was a kid and dirt bike full of mud. All she could see of Spencer were his eyes, the rest was mud. There was a nice hole in the ground which needs to dry out and be re-seeded. His mom took pictures which are unbelievable. Of course he spent some quality time standing in the corner. But he had great memories to take his mind off of standing in the corner. God Bless you Spencer.

ONLY IN AMERICA
In reading the local paper the other day I came across an article about an increase in salary of two officials in Hammond Ind. With me getting a $29.00 a month increase in my Social Security check and trying trying to make ends meet I wonder how they justify an salary increase of $15,000.00 a year to both the Fire Chief and the Police Chief. I bet they won't have a problem paying their property taxes as well as anything else like the rest of us do.
