WHAT IS ABUSE?

Today I received my notice from the Social Security Admin about how much my monthly Medicare medical insurance will by and the grand figure of how much will be deposited to checking account. I was happy to see that nothing changed as it will for some people. I want to thank our leaders for that. At the same time I am not happy with our leaders for not giving us seniors a cost of living increase this year and also the next. But wait didn't the House and Senate vote to give themselves raises of $4700 and $5300. And let's not forget our Congressmen who added $10,000 to their salary putting them almost to a $200,000 salary per year.
What are we seniors supposed to do, collect aluminum cans to make ends meet.
REMEMBER there is another election coming in 2010. Why don't all you do gooders remember what happened this year and when election time comes look for new leaders and bring change again, this time for the better.

DA BEARS!

Since my wife passed I really got interested in football. I follow Notre Dame, the Colts and the Chicago Bears.
As for Notre Dame this year, what can you say. They will have a new coach and some new players next year and hopefully will improve their game.
The Colts had a 14-0 season until Sunday when they coach pulled the regular players out of the game and put the rookies in. When Painter, the young quarterback went in everything went down hill and the Colts wound up loosing their winning streak. If you saw the looks on Peyton Manning's face whenever the camera was on him, he didn't look too happy.
Where did the Bears come from? Cutler was playing like there was no tomorrow. They were winning but then the Vikings came back and tied the game 30-30 and the game went into over-time. With a fantastic pass by Cutler which was caught in the end zone for a touchdown and the Bears won 36-30. Exciting games like that are good for the heart. HAHAHAHAH.

LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED.

My grand daughter, Delaney, had to get out of the house today so we went and picked up my $7.00 from Heavenly Ham because I forgot the coupon on Christmas Eve and was told to bring my receipt and coupon back and they would honor the coupon and give me $7.00. That's the way to do business. From there we went to Pet Smart to look at the fish, cats and other mammals that are there as well as the current animal toys. And then it was off to McDonalds for a well earned meal of chicken nuggets for me and a double cheeseburger kids meal for Delaney. With our stomachs full we headed for the Dollar Tree where everything is $1.00. Being the big spender that I am I let her pick our two things. WOW. With Christmas just a few days past she is lucky she got that.
What my title suggests, LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED, refers to Christmas. All Christmas merchandise was in the back corner and taking it's place up front were hundreds of Valentines Day items. From cards, candy, artificial roses and other kinds of flowers and any other love me tender items they could squeeze onto the shelves. It saddened me to see how quickly Christmas had disappeared. Lets keep it in our hearts.

THERE WAS A BLANKET OF WHITE THIS MORNING.

It started yesterday afternoon and continued into the evening. This morning there was a blanket of white fluffy stuff that covered everything. It was beautiful. There were cars parked on the street which didn't help the plowing situation. The plowing started about 10:00 last night and went on all night. I live in a division where they plow our driveways sidewalks and streets.
As I was having coffee and reading the newspaper this morning I noticed a police car pull up and park behind two cars that were parked in the street. I was curious so I watched from my window and sure enough the policeman got out of his car, dusted off the plates and proceeded to write a ticket for each car. In total there were three police cars driving through the sub-division writing tickets for the many cars on the street. The village, I'm sure, made a fortune this morning.
But I still say the snow looked beautiful.

PRETTY LIGHTS

When my wife and I got married in 1965 we started driving around a few days before Christmas looking at the various displays in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. We did this every year and when we had kids this tradition I guess you would call it continued. The oooohhhh's and aaaaahhhhh's continued from the kids until they got to an age where the word boring came into play and they didn't want to go anymore. My wife and I continued this alone until grand kids came along and we started to take them with us. The same ooohhhh's and aaaaahhhh's came from the back seat and soon the word boring appeared again. When my wife passed four years ago I stopped going because it wasn't the same without her.
Last night I went shopping and on the way home I decided to drive around and look at displays myself just like in the OLD DAYS. As I drove through my old neighborhood it amazed me that people who were decorating their homes 20 years ago still have the same display. Some have moved and the new folks also decorate. For the old timers, some have added to their displays to make their homes more beautiful than before.
I was pleased to see how many people added Jesus, Joseph and Mary to their displays to remind those who see it that there is another reason to remember other than Santa and gifts.
After riding around for about an hour I headed home with a good feeling in my heart and I will do this again next Christmas.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!

SUPERHERO OR SUPERMAN?

I don't know about you but I am getting tired of all the articles in the paper that are about rape, killing or whatever else people can do to each other. It is rare that we come across a good heart warming article. I found one in today's paper that I would like to share with you.
This story happened in Ottawa, Kansas. Nick Harris was driving his 8 year old daughter to school last week and noticed a car backing out of a driveway. The car ran over a 6 year old little girl. Mr. Harris jumped out of his car and ran over to the other car where he grabbed the rear end of car and lifted as hard as he could to get the tire off of the little girl. The little girl escaped with minor injuries. Mr. Harris said the best thanks he received is when he visited the girl later that day. She gave him a hug and a kiss and said "Thanks Superman".
I don't know about you but I would like to read more heart warming stories about other people doing good deeds.
Nice work Nick Harris of Ottawa. Kansas.

ARE THEY NOT IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT.

Today was a day or running around getting last minute shopping done. As a diabetic I should eat something in the morning, but noooooooo I wanted to get out and get that shopping done. I left the house around 10 and went from one store to another and then realized that I had not eaten anything that morning except for two cups of coffee.
I was getting hungry so I stopped at Wendy's for a hamburger. I got my food and sat down to fill myself and after about 15 minutes it dawned on me that this Wendy's did not have any Christmas decorations anywhere to be found. Odd since all other eating places and stores are playing Christmas music and have decorations all over the place. I wonder, is Wendy's the hum-bug of the eating establishments or maybe they just don't care.
Merry Christmas all who work for Wendy's.

TIME IS GETTING CLOSE.

In November there is a hint of the approaching Christmas because of the commercials on television and things appearing in stores. But things really heat up for the youngsters in the month of December when the Christmas tree goes up and Santa is in the stores ready to hear what you have on your list and to have your picture taken with the jolly old fellow. The excitement grows even more when teachers in school start talking about upcoming parties and Santa's Secret Workshop sales that will be held at school. This is where you spend a fortune and get very little so the kids will have something to give to grandma, grandpa, dad, teacher and whomever else they wish to surprise on Christmas.
As the big day grows near every child seems to behave better than ever and I swear that there is a halo around them that for these few weeks make your child look angelic. At least that is my opinion.
With this in mind I want to wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

P.S. If you are still looking for that special gift, you might want to consider purchasing AVON online from my daughters website at www.youravon.com/lorrioconnor. It can be shipped directly to you from their warehouse.

WOULD YOU EAT IT.

I click on blogs through ENTRECARD. It's fun and there are many, many interesting and funny bloggers out there.
There is one thing I must say and this is geared to the cooks and people who put recipes for all to see, read, cook or bake. There are many good ones and I am glad that you folks share your favorite or ethnic meals. It opens up a whole new world for our taste buds. These is one thing that you might want to consider before sharing with us and that is "should I take a picture of this dish". The reason I say this is that although it looks good on a plate and presented well on your table, it may look entirely different in a picture that you share with us. Sometime the colors come out different and then it doesn't look good. Some do and some do not.
Please keep supply us with your favorite dishes because they are truly wonderful. Being alone I do use many of them.
THANK YOU.

HERE I SIT.

Got the grandkids off to school this morning and after that read the paper. When I got finished with that it was time for my programs to start. Match Game, Family Fued, Lets Made A Deal and The Price is Right and to finish it off I watch the eleven o'clock news. After all that it is ho hum what do I do now. The answer to that today was put up the Christmas tree. That I did. I always enjoy doing that and seeing the special ornaments that my wife and I and the kids made over the years. I'm 69 so there are quite a few memories hanging on the tree. With all the boxes put away and the floor vacuumed it was time to eat dinner and watch some tv. I think I fell asleep in the rocking chair around 10 and woke up at 2:30, shut everything off and went to bed. Tossed and turned and tossed and turned. Heard the clock chime at 3 and again at 4, still wasn't asleep at 4:30 so I got up, put on a pot of coffee, started a load of clothes and now here I sit in front of the computer writing this after checking e-mails.
Received an e-mail from my daughters boy friend in Iraq and he asked me for permission to marry my daughter. This came last week. Today I received another e-mail with a picture of the ring he ordered from a jeweler in New York. She doesn't know about the ring so she will be surprised. Good luck to them.

FATHER OF THE YEAR AWARD GOES TO!!!!!

It all happened when a tractor-trailer driver had the urge to stop at a strip club and have a few drinks. After he had his fill of drinking and stripping he decided it was time to leave. The time was 1:15 a.m.. Upon leaving this pleasure den he looked and looked for his truck and came upon the conclusion that is was stolen. He called the police and as it turned out it was just a matter of not being able to remember where he parked his truck. Police helped him find it and low and behold, inside the truck watching cartoons on a tv was his 5 year old son, doors unlocked and keys still in the ignition.
Needless to say this 39 year old Franklin, Indiana man was arrested for child neglect and public intoxication.
Too bad there is nothing else that they can charge him with. A person like this does not need to have children.

GOT CAUGHT UP IN FIGHTING EVENT

Ladies, before you let your man order a Ultimate Fighting Championship, be sure that he can handle the excitement. This event occurred in Chesterton, Indiana. This gentleman's wife ordered a Ultimate Fighting Championship on pay-per-view to be nice. The program started and he really got into all of the punching and kicking. He really enjoyed himself. A few hours after the event was over he showed his wife just how much he appreciated her getting the program for him. He was so pleased that he threw her into a wall, choked her and tried ripping her wedding rings from her finger.
For his actions he was arrested on battery and strangulation charges.
You just can't please some people.

FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

Today I woke up with the Christmas spirit. Last night I planned out my day in my mind and when I woke up I still had that plan in my mind. I was going to two places, Wal-Mart and Toy's R Us. At 7:00 a.m. I jumped out of bed, made my coffee, showered, ate and took my meds. At 9:30 I was out the door on my way to Wal-Mart on a mission to purchase Call of Duty 2, Modern Warfare. As my daughter tells me it is one of the hottest Xbox 360 games out there. To my good luck Wal-Mart had several of them. As you might know these games are in a glass case and only an associate can get it for you. As luck has it there was an associate right next to me putting other video games in the next glass enclosure. I asked if she could get the game for me and she replied "I can't because I have to put these games away first". She had about 50 games to put away. She said she would have to take all the games back to the counter, leave them there, come back, get my game, return to the counter and bring back all of the other games. She was less than 2 feet away from the game I wanted. All she had to do was move her left foot about 1 foot and she could have opened the case and never left the other games alone. I just looked at her as she told me I would have to come back later. Goodbye Wal-Mart, I will do my best to shop at other stores this Christmas Season and I am sorry I disturbed you ASS OCIATE.
I bought the game at Toy's R Us.
What a joke that was!! I was looking for a doctor's set only to find out later that it can only be purchased online. I purchased the video game I wanted after standing in line for almost a half hour. With the number of customers there, they only had 3 registers open and there were approx. 10 to 15 people in each line. What are they going to do on BLACK FRIDAY.
Good luck to all of you who are visiting the two stores I mentioned.
One more thing!! " HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND HAPPY SHOPPING".

WE HAVE AN ACTOR IN THE FAMILY.

In every family there is always hope that someone will be famous. Whether it be a politician, lawyer, doctor or better yet an actor.
My grandson, Spencer, is a pretty husky kid as you can see from the picture. When he moved to Killeen, Texas and started school this semester he wanted to play football. The money wasn't available so he did the next best thing. He joined the Drama Club? At least he joined a school activity and is enjoying every minute of it. Spencer is always pretending to be one thing or another, a WWE wrestler throwing his brother Aiddin around or a Ninja, throwing his brother Aiddin around or playing cops and robbers, tying his brother Aiddin up as a prisoner. The Drama Club is right up his alley.
I heard from his mother that he has been chosen to play the part of Prince Charming in a school play in January and the part of a Lollipop Man in another play to be performed in February.
He is a good kid and if you ever met him you could not picture him playing these parts.
I'm happy for him because this is something that HE wants to do and is not being forced into it.
Good for you Spencer.

DOES HE NOT LIKE US?

Over the last few days there have been pictures of Mr. Obama on the Internet with a picture taken at the Ft. Hood memorial for the people killed by this (whatever you want to call him).
This picture shows him (Obama) with his hands over his crotch during the saying of the Pledge of Allegiance. I'm sure that all the thousands of people who attended this ceremony had their hand over their heart as the others on stage did. What makes him so different?
This really upsets me. All of my life I have been taught to respect the flag by putting my hand over my heart and I'm sure that if he went to an American school, he was taught the same thing.
Does he really think that he is so much better than the rest of us. I wonder if his wife and kids put their hands over their heart during the PLEDGE.
This is something we ALL should remember to do. It is part of Honoring our Country.
GOD BLESS AMERICA AND OUR TROOPS.

IS HE THE JESUS WE KNOW?

A man in Indiana had been drinking gin all day, got drunk and battered and strangled his mother and would not let her call police. Police did show up and arrested her son on charges of strangulation and interference with reporting a crime. He said he had been drinking gin all and said that he was Jesus.
I really don't think Jesus we know would be drinking gin or bring harm to anyone. I think this guy needs a little time in a drunk tank and a hospital mental ward.

MATH CAMP

When I was visiting my daughter in Texas this past summer I kept seeing, as I passed school, signs saying "This School Adopted By" and it would be the name of an army company that was stationed at Fort Hood.
Well my granddaughter is having a little trouble with her math and her teacher suggested that she attend MATH CAMP at her school which is held on a Saturday. This camp is run by the soldiers in a company at Fort Hood. They tutor the kids and take them on field trips. They have been invited to go to Fort Hood and have lunch in a mess hall and see the living quarters and helicopter's as well as other things. The kids are really excited about going. I don't blame them.

PRINT THE PRICE.

On Sunday's I like to read the paper with my coffee and read the sale papers. Now that the holiday season is upon us there are a lot of sales. Some are good sales and some are not so good. I like to compare prices against one store to another to see how good their sale is. One thing that really upsets me is when the add says 20% to 50% off. Off of what $10.00 or $100.00. Show the consumer the percentage off of what price. If they want me to come into their store they better do just that. Lets also keep in mind that we should buy AMERICAN PRODUCTS whenever possible.

DOLLAR CENTER FOR THAT EXTRA CASH IN YOUR POCKET.

With the holidays coming around again and with the way times are now we could always use a little extra money in our pockets. Maybe it will be used to buy gifts or pay a bill or buy something special for that someone special in your life. There is a website that I suggest you look at for this purpose and that is http://thedollarcenter.com/, also known as the Dollar Center.
You can borrow up to $1500.00 and get that amount within a 24 hour period, unlike banks where it would take considerably longer and require documentation. At the dollar center it is done online from your home or office. The application process is safe and private. I know that you are thinking "for what length of time can I use this money" and the answer to that is 2 to 4 weeks. The nice thing about contacting the dollar center is that there is no need for perfect credit and there are no hidden fees. If you are concerned about any of this and have questions, you can contact them via e-mail and you will receive an answer quickly.
During my lifetime I have run into situations where I needed fast cash. I was lucky enough to have someone to turn to for that money, but if I didn't, I would definitely have turned to the dollar center for help. It's an easy process.
As in all cases of applying for a loan there are some requirements and that is you must be 18 years of age or older, have a valid bank account and have proof of regular income.
Do yourself a favor and catch up on your bills or get holiday cash by visiting the dollar center at http://thedollarcenter.com/.

DID YOU MAKE IT THROUGH THE NITE?

Yesterday being the day of witches and goblins, I ask you this question. Did you make it through the night.
I live in a town home in a very nice section of town. I have lived here for five years and every year I prepare for the onslaught of costumed children running up to the door and yelling "TRICK OR TREAT". But do you know what, that never happens. In the five years that I have been here I can only recall having ONE child ringing my doorbell and saying those words. So here I am with two bags of Tootsie-Rolls and me a diabetic. I guess I can save the candy until next year, right.
It may be hard candy by then but then you can suck them as if they were hard candy.
About getting through the night. When I went to bed I was awakened several times by noises. Living alone I don't like strange sounds as if someone is trying to get in. Each time I heard a noise I get up to investigate. I did this a few times until I was next to the refrigerator and the noise happened again. The noise was the ice maker and it was full. As new ice was made it would fall to the bottom of the freezer making noises all the way down. I turned to ice maker off and went back to bed to enjoy a good night's sleep.
REMEMBER TO TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK!!!

CHILDREN AND COSTUMES ON PARADE!!!!

Today was a nice day. Temp 61 overcast and it was the day that the Protsman School in Schererville, Indiana had the annual Halloween party and parade around the building. It has become a tradition and everyone, kids, parents, friends and grandparent's, look forward to it. There was not a parking space available within three blocks of the school and those spaces were taken up by the 200+ people who came to cheer and take pictures of the children.
I can just imagine the excitement of the children inside the school as they were getting into the costumes. Help me button this, help me zip this or help me tie this. I' m glad I was outside waiting instead of inside with the teachers and their helpers.
At exactly 1:15 the doors of the school opened and the children started filing out in single file, led by their teachers, some in costume, some not. You could hear the excitement within the crowd as they looked for their loved one or one's dressed in a array of monsters, super hero's, princesses and any other thing you could think of.
It lasted all of 20 minutes and the children were back in the building getting ready for the class parties at which I am sure they had a good time.

I know my granddaughter Delaney brought home a goodly some of goodies.
It's a great tradition that everyone looks forward too and I hope it never ends like other traditions we grew to know have.

OUR UTILITY COMPANY AT WORK - NOT

My son had his service turned off on Thursday. He called and they told him that he was short 39.00. In the summer he had a large bill and was told he could pay the $39.00 along with the regular payment until he was caught up. No telling him that if he was late he would not get a shut-off notice. He was told it would be turned on Friday. He went to the store on Friday and upon his return there was a NIPSCO crew placing a lock on his meter. He told them that he had a receipt for payment with a reference number but was told they had a work order and there was nothing they could do. He called and the rep. said she would have to put another work order through and power would be restored the next business day which was Monday. So no power over the weekend. He then spoke to a supervisor who said all crews were busy restoring power to several hundred people without power due to heavy rains. This was at 3:00 pm on Friday when he spoke to the supervisor who then told him there was nothing he could do to help him since they don't work on the weekend so he would have to make other arrangements.
The outcome is spoiled food, milk and juices as well as inconvenience for just $39.00
Our power company at work and ready to serve.

TURNED THE KEY FOR THE LAST TIME THIS SEASON.

When I woke this morning the sun was shinning and not a cloud in the sky and I said to myself, what a beautiful day to go to the camper. One thing was wrong. The temperature was only 43 degrees. I did go to the camper but this was the last time this season and my reason for the trip was to shut everything down, empty the refrigerator, clean out the cabinets and go home until May of next year.
I was there about three hours when I took a final ride on the golf cart before I covered it up for the winter. I loaded the car and then locked the camper for the last time this year. It was a depressing time but my spirits were picked up as I drove home and saw the beautiful display of colors mother nature gave me to look at on my ride. She did a beautiful job.
Now I have a lot of TV to catch up on, reading and just being alone.

CLOSING DAY

Tomorrow I will be up bright and early, get my coffee and head for the campground. The weatherperson said that it is going to be cold and raining. That's OK because I am not going to stay. All of my friends have closed up for the season and that is my mission.
I will put away the decorations and anything else that can blow away during a winter storm. Unhook the hose and put that in the shed. The biggest job will be to empty the refrigerator and wash it out.
When all of the above is done there will be only one thing left to do and that is take a last of the season ride on the golf cart through the park. When that is done I will put the cart on my patio and cover it with a tarp and weigh it down so it won't blow away.
Then it will be time to call my friend Dana who will winterize it for me so the pipes won't freeze.
When all is done it will be time to get back into my van and say goodbye until next year when, God willing, I will be back to enjoy another summer with my friends.

OUR DAY

Tomorrow, regardless what the weather is I will go purchase a dozen roses and a anniversary card. You see, October 9,1965 is the day that I married the most wonderful girl in the world. Together we made a home with three children, dogs and various other pets. Without her none of this would have been possible.
On the 9th of October 2009 we would have been married 44 years. We would sit and talk about my retiring and what we would do to enjoy the rest of our life together. I retired in July of 2000 and two weeks later she was diagnosed with Multiplemyeloma a bone marrow cancer. With the aid of doctors at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago, Illinois and various trials she beat the expected life expectancy of two years and stretched it into six years. During that time we were able to travel, go out for lunch and her favorite, looking at model homes. Then on October 3, 2005 she was taken down with a stroke and passed away February 13, 2006 the day before Valentines day. That's an easy day to remember. I bring flowers of different colors every week but this day is special, she will get roses and a card.
Happy anniversary Andie.
I love you.

BEACH CRUISER BIKES.

Bikes are a big thing today. Big bikes, little bikes, slow bikes and fast bikes. But there is a company that does not call them bikes, they call them beach cruisers. They are a sleek, stylish bike that is made for everyone, young and old. They have a website that will show you what they have to offer and site is http://www.cruiserstyle.com/. I know what's going through your mind right now and that is "with a fancy name like that, they must cost a lot of money" NOT!!!!!.
They are moderately priced bikes as you would find anywhere else. The cruisers come in one speed or multi speeds. Both men and women styles are available.
If you want to get fancy with a bike, check out the XYZ Beach Cruiser Chopper. Now this is a bike, a motorcycle without the motor. Really unique. You'll be the talk of the beach or neighborhood if you are seen riding a xyz beach cruiser.
I recommend that you check out http://www.cruiserstyle.com/ to make your next purchase of a neat bike (cruiser). If you have an questions, you can contact them right on the site as well as see pictures of the cruisers and xyz beach cruiser.
Enjoy your day in style.

IN THE NEWSPAPER 9-24-09

As we look through the newspaper we see articles of different varieties, glance at it and if it doesn't pertain to us we move on. Articles about children is a different story. I came across one this morning about Chicago Ridge, Illinois.
A home day care was raided and it was also found to be the site of a dogfighting ring. Investigators who raided the home found blood splattered on the garage floor as well as battered and malnourished dogs not far from where the children played. One of the persons arrested was the day care operators husband. Three were charged yesterday and two more people are being sought.
This just goes to show that you must be extra careful when putting your child into a home day care. I don't know if it is licensed or not but parents should ask these things as well as seeing any other documentation about the day care and ask questions of neighbors about the day care and it's owners.

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

Saturday was the day. The long awaited, by the kids, Halloween weekend with games, prizes, trick or treating and the wagon ride through the haunted woods. I think that the highlight of the day was the candy drop from an airplane. Sections were blocked off and the plane had to drop candy into each of these zones. Garbage bags were filled with candy and dropped from the plane. Over 15,000 pieces of candy were dropped from the plane. My neighbor and I estimated there were between 700 and 800 adults and children gathered to see this spectacular. And spectacular it was. When all the candy was on the ground and the OK given, a mass stampede occurred onto the field with adults and kids alike yelling and screaming to get to these pieces of gold that will eventually send one to the dentist. The scrambling lasted all of 15 minutes and all the candy was picked up. And as expected there were tears of joy by those who got an abundance of treasure and tears of sorrow by those who came away with little in the sacks. All in all I must say it looked liked this new addition to the Yogi Bear Campground in Plymouth, Indiana, was a hit.
Those who didn't get much candy at the plane drop certainly made up for it during the trick or treating hours.
At night you could smell the cooking over a burning fire and children running around like wild indians from the candy consumed during the day and night. My heart felt sorrow to those who had to try and put their children to sleep with all that sugar in them.
Until next year!!!!!!!!!

THE WINNER

I don't know how many of you watched America's Got Talent last night but the winner was a surprise. My favorite, Barbara Padilla, didn't win. That's OK because she had so much publicity that someone, if they are smart, will sign her to a good contract.
As far as the winner goes, Kevin Skinner, I am happy for him. He is unemployed, has a family and to bring in money for him family sings in a bar. Now he won't have to. Good luck to Kevin in the future. A whole new world has opened before he and his family.

TOMORROW IS THE NIGHT

If you have been watching America's Got Talent you know that tomorrow night is when we will find out who will win the million dollars and get a show in Las Vegas.
After watching the show last night and seeing how everyone has unscaled their act, everyone is qualified to an extent, but there is one person that excelled above and beyond all others and is my favorite, that being Barbara Padilla. Not only is the a cancer survivor, she is a beautiful lady that has the voice that can bring a tear to your eye. I voted for her and hope enough other people did too to make her a star. Even if she doesn't win she will go on to bigger and better things because America has heard her sing.
Others who performed were the Texas Tenors, Kevin Skinner, Grandma Lee (funny lady) and Recycled Percussion (similar to the Blue Man Group) these people were at the top of my list, but no number 1 like Barbara.
Be sure to watch tomorrow at 7:00 central time on NBC.

GETTING TO THE END

Getting to the end. Don't want to see it come. Don't want to have to do it. I'm talking about the end of the camping season. Around the middle of October the park shuts the water off and that pretty much ends the camping season for six months. That is always a sad time because you have to say goodbye to friends who are scattered all over and you won't see them until next April.
This weekend is the Halloween weekend when people decorate their campers and the children get to go trick-or-treating thru the park. This year the park is doing something different and that is having a candy drop from an airplane. They have over 10,000 pieces of candy that will be dropped onto the baseball field and the children will be let loose to gather as much as they can. Of course the children will be kept away from the field until after the candy is dropped. Thank God. They plan on having two drops. Also planned for the day are games, food and a wagon ride through the haunted woods followed by a dance for young and old. Sounds like a fun day.
I had some good news this weekend and that is that John and Shirley, good friends of mine, have gotten engaged to be married. I'm very happy for them.
I am looking for a fun weekend next week and that weekend brings one week closer to the end of the camping season.

WHAT SHOULD A GIRL DO?

Some people can take things too far, far enough to make some people quit their job.
My daughter in Texas is raising three kids without the help of a loser whom she left, good thing,. She worked for a nursing home after taking the tests required to do that kind of work. After saving enough money to live on for awhile she left the loser and filed for divorce. Things are not going easy.
She managed to get a similar job with a company in the new town where she lives. She takes care of a 20+ man who is blind and in a fetal position. She feeds him, gives him his meds, reads to him, changes his diaper and does whatever else is required to make him comfortable. The mans mother doesn't want to supply rubber gloves for my daughter saying they are too expensive. This woman owns two dogs and requires my daughter to clean up the crap in the yard. NO, NO, NO. I say my daughter is there to take care of the son, NOTHING ELSE.
Lady, clean up your own crap or have your husband do it.
At $8.25 a hour, taking care of the son is enough.
To my daughter. START LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB!!!!!!

INTERESTING PHONE CALL

At four fifteen this afternoon I received a phone call from my daughter, Lorri, who lives in Texas. She was almost in tears and here it the situation.
She is new to the area of Killeen and doesn't know anyone who could help if she needs it. She is on her way home from work and she heard a knock under her van and pieces of something behind her. No lights came on and the van was still running OK. She called me, 1200 miles away and asked if I knew what was wrong. Are you kidding me. She asked if I would stay on the phone with her until she got home. She vented all the way. Twenty minutes later she was home and all I could determine was that she must have hit something on the road like a tire. She is going to call my son who is a mechanic and look under the hood as he walks her through what should be and not be under the hood.
I told her she should make some friends quick so she can get some help out there.

DEALING WITH THE BMV

I had to renew the plates on my car today and I can honestly say it was a pleasant experience dealing with the BMV. Usually dealing with a government agency is a nightmare as my daughter knows by dealing with them in Texas. Well anyway they were so efficient that I was in and out with my new plates within 15 minutes. It's too bad that our boy's in Washington can't get things done as efficiently. When you deal with the BMV in your state I hope your experience is just as good. By the way I live in Indiana.

GOT A NEW COMPUTER

I haven't been around very much and that is because my computer went kaput's, broke, didn't work anymore. It was a HP purchased at Circuit City and as I hear tell there was a recall on this lap-top. Well anyway it just died and with my luck the recall date has expired. HP says for $250.00 and if I ship it there they will fix it. No thanks I would just rather buy a new one with all of the warranties in place and it would also be a newer model. That's just what I did. Another HP and hopefully this time it won't die. It also come with Windows 7 upgrade. I hope it is better than Vista and I was assured it was.
It's nice to have a compute again.

THE MASK

While was in Texas I took some short trips with the family. One was to San Marcos to ride on the glass bottom boats and also take in the gardens surronding this ride.
On the was there we had to go thru Austin and wouldn't you know it was rush hour so it took some time to get through.
As we were sitting there moving inch by inch the kids were looking out the windows at the tall buildings that make up this lovely city. At one point in time, Spencer looked out of the back window and said rather loudly "ON MY GOD" and of course everyone said "what's the matter". Spencer siad "he's in the the truck behind us". If you have every seen the movies Halloween or Friday the 13th you will know of the masks Michael Meyers and Jason wore. All the kids looked back to see what Spencer saw and all were shocked and said "THE MASK, THE MASK". Both Lorri and I said "impossible" and the kids kept saying it. I glanced into my rearview mirror and what to my wondering eyes should appear but THE MASK, and the creepy thing is that you could not see the driver. The guy had this mask hanging from his rearview mirror. It gave the kids a scare and Lorri and I laughed after seeing it and eventually we were all laughing. If the driver of the car saw into my rear window, bet he or she were laughing too.

I HAVE BEEN AND RETURNED

I have gone to Texas, stayed for a month and returned to dear old Indiana this past Tuesday missing my family in Texas. I was a nice trip with the reward being the sight of my daughter and grandchildren. We had a nice visit but the temperatures could have been a little lower. When I left Indiana it was 78 degrees and when I arrived in Killeen Texas the temperatures were in the 100's and stayed there for the entire month that I was there. I am now enjoying the temps in the high 70's and low 80's.
I am going to the camper today to see how things are there and looking forward to seeing my friends again.
I will tell you of my trip as time goes by.

TIME IS GETTING CLOSER

Tomorrow morning at this time I hope to be well down the road on my way to Texas with my granddaughter Delaney with the car dvd player spewing the words of Dr Suess's Cat in the Hat movie. I bet I will hear that about 50 times before we arrive at our destination. I hope to slip in a audio book from time to time. They make to time go faster with a good mystery. I usually take six audio books with me and am usually on the last one about half way home.
Looking forward to seeing everyone and that will happen on Wednesday afternoon.
Hope to have stories of things that we will do next time that I write.

LOVE SONGS - HAVE THEY CHANGED?

Once upon a time, love songs were just that. Songs that spoke of love relating to a boy and girl or man and a woman. It told of tender feelings and futures togeather.
Have they changed now and how does it affect our society. I think they have changed in the respect of telling our young people that it's OK to have sex just because someone you just met says "I love you" with references to going to bed, performing sex acts and most of all these garbage rap singers demoralizing the young girls of this country. Modern day love songs are not that. They are crap. The only true love songs today are Country songs. Listen to them, they will touch your heart.
Take the dNeero survey below and give your opinion of what you think.

GOING TO TEXAS

It's vacation time again and since my daughter Lorri was here last year it's my turn to go there. She has moved from Shiner to Killeen Texas. Killeen is a little over 200 miles closer than Shiner and a lot larger and is near Fort Hood.
While I am there I hope to see some new things, one being the Houston Space Center. I hear it is really a great place especially for the kids. You have to understand that Shiner had about 2000 people and they sucked the sidewalks in at 7.00 while Killeen is 50 times larger and a lot more to do. Shiner did not have a Diary Queen or McDonalds or a movie theatre. Everything was either 20 or 60 miles away depending on what you wanted to do.
I am looking forward to getting on the road getting there and seeing new things and of course the big thing is seeing my daughter and grand kids.
Talk to ya'll later.

JON AND KATE

Has this circus come to an end. I haven't seen figures yet on the number of viewers that watched Jon and Kate last night but I bet it was huge. I really don't care if they separate, divorce or whatever, but I watched it out of curiosity. We all know that the show will continue with Jon living elsewhere and Kate staying with the kids. At $75000.00 an episode I would find some way to keep the show going. I wonder if that figure is for re-runs too. With all the fuss that the kids will be going thru over the years I only hope that they will become normal fun loving children. I get the impression that Jon is a little slow and has a hard time making decisions on his own. And for Kate, maybe if she kept her mouth shut once in a while and not be such a bitch, they would still be together.
Only time will tell about this rags to riches couple with 8 adorable kids.
God Bless them and help them make the right decision. Also keep the shrinks out of it. If anyone can screw up one's head, they can.

GOOD YARD SALE AT THE CAMPER!

There is always a thrill of excitement when preparing for a yard sale. Will I make money, will it be cool or hot and will it be sunny or cloudy and the big question is will it RAIN. To answer these questions. Yes I did make a little money, it was cool, in the low 70's, cloudy and just a slight sprinkle in the afternoon around closing time. One of the nice things about the camp wide yard sale is the people you meet. All are looking for that treasure and are willing to share a few words about one thing or another. I'm always glad when someone tells me that they found just what they were looking for and it makes me feel good that I had it.
I did get rid (is that the correct word to use) of quite a few things and now have a little more room in the shed. There will be another one in August and I can't wait to do it again.

EXCITING WEEKEND COMING UP!!!!!!!

We have a exciting weekend coming up at the campground this week and that will be the annual yard sale throughout the campground. There should be over 150 campsites included. You can get just about anything you may want short of booze and women. I will be participating with the rest this Saturday and have a mixture of things to sell from children's cloths to arts and crafts. I always look forward to this weekend because it is not only a chance to sell things but also to meet new and talk to new people. The park is open to the public so you can bet there will be a lot of people there as well as security. I am leaving tomorrow (Friday) to start setting up my tables and will be out bright and early on Saturday putting my sale items out which takes about an hour plus. When all is over and things put away it will be time to sit around a fire and talk about the days happenings and what treasures our group found throughout the day.
Looking forward to a nice weekend.

WHAT CAN BE DONE?

Reading the newspaper, listening to the news on the radio or tv, it's happening and it is not a good thing.
Police car gets into an accident would be good person runs to help policeman but the creep turns the officer (who already has a spinal injure) not to help but to take his gun. Just what kind of people are out there?
Just the other day a police car was responding to a call of shots fired and while en route a car pulls up next to them and opens fire hitting one officer in the knee and the head. This officer did die later and he was only 27 years old and engaged to be married. Again a life of a good person taken by some creep with a gun.
What can be done? Should the laws for such things be stricter so as to put fear of doing an act of violence into these people no matter if young or old. Sentence the young punks who think they own the streets as adults regardless of age. Isn't it always said "an eye for an eye".
When family members are interviewed, how can they honestly say that they forgive the person who killed their loved one. Not possible.

BIRDS ARE GONE

Last weekend I was at the camper again and of course checking in on the baby Robins. The two were sitting in the nest waiting for the mom to come back and feed them. Monday morning when I went 0ut onto the deck for a cup of coffee the birds were not in the nest. Looking around I saw one sitting on the railing of my deck and the other in the higher branches of the tree. The one on the railing sat there chirping for awhile and then flew off to my neighbors lot. From there he hopped across the street into a bust and was gone. The other stayed in the tree to get fed by mom. He was no dummy.
Going back again today but I doubt that they will be there. It was interesting to see the eggs and then the babies grow and fly away.

It was a beautiful weekend at the camper and it looks like the robin family has accepted my goings in and out of the camper because she doesn't fly away anymore but she does keep a close eye on me.

I had my doubts about the eggs hatching because of the way she kept flying away and spent little time on the eggs but low and behold there are now two hungry baby robins in the nest covered with white fuzzy feathers. It will be inters ting this weekend to see how much they have grown and if they gained any new feathers. I will keep you informed.

STARTING A FAMILY-PART 3

I was at the camper last weekend, my getaway retreat. The weather was no good on saturday with rain, chilly and a strong wind. I don't like those days. Sunday being Mothers Day was very nice so that made it a day to be enjoyed.
Sunday I got up early and let Delaney sleep so I could get some quiet time. I spent this time with a cup of coffee whiile sitting on the deck looking at the lake. This is good thinking time while listening to the birds, enjoying the nice breeze and drinking my coffee and wishing I wasn't alone and had someone to say Happy Mother's Day to, but that ended three years ago.
That Robin is still sitting on the three eggs she laid and I still wonder if they will hatch with her not sitting on them all of the time. She still flys away whenever someone walks on the road and passes the tree which is about 15 feet away. Even when a golf cart passes she flys away. When I come out of the camper I try to be as quiet as possible but this too makes her fly away. I have inserted a picture of her sitting in a tree waiting until she can return to the nest.
I hope the eggs hatch because I would like to see the young grow up and continue to follow their progress to adult birds.
More on this next week.

SCOTTSDALE ARIZONA - THE PERFECT PLACE.

Are you like me? I like it warm all the time but unfortunatlhy I live in Indiana and don't have the warm weather all of the time, but I can tell you that there is a place to enjoy the warm climate all year round and that place is Scottsdale Arizona. Or should I say beautiful Scottsdale, which it is and the temperatures are also beautiful all year round. The temperatures throughout the year range from 68 to 104 degrees. Just think no snow or ice. That alone is a plus.
If you are looking to relocate I would suggest that you log onto http://www.scottsdalefineproperties.com/. This is the website for Scottsdale Arizona realtors, a fine established company that can help you with find a home, condo, rental or investment properties. Outdoor activities are always available with the weather co-operating to let you enjoy your favorite activities.
Fishing, golfing and hiking are just a few of the things that can be done in Scottsdale because of the year round beautiful temperatures. Most of the time humidity is not a factor in enjoying outside activities or functions.
All of this said, visit the Scottsdale Arizona realtors website at http://www.scottsdalefineproperties.com/, see what they have to offer and if you have any questions, give them a call.

STARTING A FAMILY PART 2

When I was a the camper last week I went to take pictures of what was going on with the Robin family in the tree in front of the camper. When I went to get my camera I realized I had left it at home. Today is Friday and I am going back out today this time with my camera.
I can tell you that as of last week there were three blue eggs in the nest but I never saw the adult birds. I hope they didn't leave. I will be interesting to follow the progress of this family.
I will report when I return.

STARTING A FAMILY

It was such a nice day Friday that I loaded up the van and headed for the camper in Plymouth Indiana. Being the first time this year it's not exactly the most beautiful place on earth. There are thousands of leaves that need to be raked and of course the lawn has to be mowed and all of the decorations have to be put out. First things first, the water had to turned on and the hot water heater had to turned on also. With that done it was time to take a break and sit on the deck and gaze out onto the lake and reminisce about the days my wife Andie was there to enjoy another summer here. This is my third summer without her.
On Saturday I debated if I should rake and cut or rest and shop. I chose to rest and shop and enjoy the day. I, at a very slow pace, put the various decorations out and went into town and stocked up on supplies. Later that evening I joined my friends around the campfire and chatted, laughed and essentially had a good time.
During the night the weather changed and it got cold. One advantage of having a park model camper is that I can flip the switch on the furnace and make it nice and toasty. Sunday was a cold and rainy day so I stayed indoors and watch tv.
As I sat on the couch which faces the sliding glass doors I noticed a robin flying back and forth with straw or grass in it beek, then I noticed he or she landed in the crook of the Red bud tree about 8 feet from the deck and start stuffing the materials into a nest it was making. I took a picture of the nest and will follow the progression of a family, if it happens, and write about it. You may also see the beauty of the Red bud tree when it is in bloom.

LOVE SONGS, CHEATING AND AMERICAN IDOL

Like it says in the title of this blog love songs, cheating and American Idol. These questions appear in the dNeero survey below.
What would you do it you knew your partner cheated? Good question with the attitude that people have toward sex these days. Do you think songs have anything to do with it.
Who will win American Idol and do you care?
Let everyone know by taking the dNeero survey below.

SPRING IS FINALLY HERE

I know spring made it's appearance last month but yesterday was the true day of its arrival. It was around 9:00 a.m. and I was lying in bed (I can do that because I am retired) with the window open about 6 inches, just lying there relaxing and listening to the birds. Occasionally I would open my eyes to see if the sun was out, and it was because I could see the light coming in from behind the blinds.
As I said today is the true arrival of spring. The reason I say this is because in the midst of my twilight sleep and listening to the birds came this God awful roar which I knew at once was the grass cutter that would be here every Wednesday until mid October. This is not a bad thing because after it had done it's job and left, the sweet smell of freshly cut grass came in through the open window. These are the sweet times and I know that spring is here.

EASTER IS OVER - TIME TO GET BACK TO BASICS.

Easter always brings the bunny who leaves tons and tons of candy and family and friends come later in the day to enjoy a lavish meal of ham, turkey and all of the trimmings that go along with it. I had asked my son to bring some desert and he shows up with a carrot cake, french silk pie, apple cheese pie, chocolate mint pie and my friend Dalene dropped off a lamb she had made for us and while I was out shopping I picked up some gourmet chocolate chip and sugar cookies. I do believe we had enough desert. Being a diabetic I didn't want all that cake and pie around so most of it went home with my son except for the lamb and a piece of carrot cake.
Last night while watching House I did a no no. I brought out a bag of leftover candy (3/4 of a bag) and during the course of House and Law and Order I ate the whole thing. Later I got hungry and had a small, no, very large piece of the lamb. I paid for it this morning when I took my blood glucose count. It was high, very high. Lets say 257. Not good.
Thank God Easter is over and I can now get back to normal, start working out and get into my speedo for the summer. Can you imagine a heavy set older gentleman in a speedo? Nightmare.
In any case I have to start being good.

GET INTO THE BUDDHA GROOVE

For years Buddha's have been around either as a idol to rub his stomach for good luck, pray to or just to add atmosphere for decoration. Restaurant's have them which gives a calming affect to dining. Doctor's offices have them to calm the nerves. If you are in need of Buddha Statues, I would recommend visiting Buddha Groove at http://www.buddhagroove.com/. This is a place that has a large selection of statues, jewelry, wall art, home decor and clothing. Buddha's have a relaxing affect on people so why not bring one into your home. Buddha Groove have gift boxes so you can give that perfect unique gift to someone special.
Their Buddha's are made of various materials such as wood, metal, brass and resin and come in various colors. They also have a nice selection of books to read and learn about Buddha.
I found out by visiting the website and Buddha means "The Awakened One". Just thought I'd throw in a little bit of knowledge.
Buddha Groove has desk accessories, candle holders and incense holders if you are inclined to use these items. And of course there is free shipping on most items. Take advantage of that.
If you are truly interested or just want to look, log on to http://www.buddhagroove.com/ and see what they have to offer.

VENGENCE OF THE SWORD

In 2007 when my daughter and the kids were in from Texas I took Julie, Delaney, Lorri, Spencer, Angelica and Aiddin to see Medieval Times in Schaumburg, IL. Spectacular show and food. Excitement from the moment you walk in. You sit around a large arena, eat and watch the entertainment which includes horsemanship, jousting, sword fights and special contests. Of course they are selling all sorts of things to remind one that they have been there and witnessed this spectacle. On the way out Julie said she would be each child a souvenir. The girls chose something sweet and pretty and of course the boys choose the swords. At that moment I said "nothing good will come of this".
Yesterday, Eater, I was talking to my daughter Lorri in Texas and during one point of the conversation she said "remember the swords you bought the boys at Medieval Times" and I corrected her by saying her sister bought them, she agreed and said that's right you said no good will come from this. She said on Saturday the boys were playing with the swords (I was surprised they still had them after two years) and Spencer came into the living room and said he accidentally hit Aiddin in the nose you better come look. Lorri being as calm as she is said send him here and let me look. When Aiddin arrived, not crying, he had blood running down his nose and some in his eye. After being cleaned up there was a deep gash on the bridge of his nose. Actually it looked worse than it was. Mom who works in a nursing home and watches nurses close wounds, closed it with a bandage like she saw a nurse do it. Low and behold it just has a little scab and is good as new. Needless to say the boys do not play fight with the swords anymore.

OPENING OF YOGI BEAR CAMP RESORT

It's coming, it's coming. The opening of the Yogi Bear Camp Resort in Plymouth Indiana. That special day is May 1, 2009. Of course if you are a lot owner you can get in now and start the camping season off now.
In checking my camper this year I have discovered that I will need a new roof, a small water spot on my ceiling tipped me off to that. The camper is 10 years old so I guess it's about time.
After this long cold winter I am really looking forward to seeing friends from far and near, catching up on the news and hearing new jokes as we sit around the camp fire. Got to get the golf cart, the preferred mode of transportation, spruced up so I can take my daily ride around the park and see what is new in the way of additions of new campers and remodeling going on. No matter how many times one rides around the park you never get tired of doing it unless of course you run out of gas or the cart breaks down and you have to push it.
I will be going out there the weekend after Easter. Am really looking forward to it. A lot of snowbirds should have arrived by then and the general store should be open.
If you are a camper, come on out and see us. Visit on line and check out rates and activities and special weekends at http://plymouthjellystone.com.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT DICKSTER1961

CAN LUNG CANCER BE CAUSED BY SECOND HAND SMOKE?

It is a fact that lung cancer is a killer of adults and yes children. What causes it in children and people that do not smoke. Second hand smoke and factory smoke or fumes.
What do you think? Voice your opinion through the dNeero survey below. Let yourself be heard.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDIE.

I'm sorry I just got around to this now, but a week ago Tuesday, March 31, was the birthday of a very special lady, My wife Andie.
I wish that I could have bought her a gift of diamonds like I always do, have a special dinner for her and have the kids and grand kids over and watch her open gifts, sing happy birthday and give her a kiss and then watch her cut the cake that would have written on it something of a special meaning.
She is now celebrating her birthday with that part of the family who has left us and are now in heaven. With being in that place and surrounded by family I know she had a wonderful birthday party.
Happy Birthday Andie,
Love Rich.

DENNIS IS GONE.

For some reason I got interested in the Apprentice. I don't know if you have been watching it this year but one of the Celebrity Apprentice's is the wacky basketball player Dennis Rodman.
The man thinks he is there to be just a fixture. Not only does he look strange with all of the piercings and tattoo's, he adds nothing to the team.
Last night each team was assigned the task of running a hotel. Cleaning rooms, checking in guests, delivering room service, making dinner reservations, getting tickets for shows and so on. In essence they had to do everything to make the guests as happy as possible because each team would be judged by these guests.
Dennis was in charge of the men's team. What a disaster. The man has a drinking problem and that really affected is thinking skills, if he has any. He kept making a jerk of himself in front of the guests and half way through the show he says "I'm out of here" and leaves. He was the boss, the leader, and he leaves. He hasn't changed. Remember when he played basketball how he would disappear for days at a time, well this is what he did last nite.
To say the least the girls team won and the highlight of the night is when Donald Trump fired Dennis Rodman. Donald better think twice before he asks another loose canon like Rodman to be on the show. Maybe there is some logic to Donald's thoughts and he knows people like Dennis will increase ratings.
I thought Joan Rivers would be a dud on the show but she has turned out to be one of my favorites along with Clint Black in his cowboy hat. I have other favorites but won't go into that now.
