IN THE NEWSPAPER 9-24-09

As we look through the newspaper we see articles of different varieties, glance at it and if it doesn't pertain to us we move on. Articles about children is a different story. I came across one this morning about Chicago Ridge, Illinois.
A home day care was raided and it was also found to be the site of a dogfighting ring. Investigators who raided the home found blood splattered on the garage floor as well as battered and malnourished dogs not far from where the children played. One of the persons arrested was the day care operators husband. Three were charged yesterday and two more people are being sought.
This just goes to show that you must be extra careful when putting your child into a home day care. I don't know if it is licensed or not but parents should ask these things as well as seeing any other documentation about the day care and ask questions of neighbors about the day care and it's owners.

HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

Saturday was the day. The long awaited, by the kids, Halloween weekend with games, prizes, trick or treating and the wagon ride through the haunted woods. I think that the highlight of the day was the candy drop from an airplane. Sections were blocked off and the plane had to drop candy into each of these zones. Garbage bags were filled with candy and dropped from the plane. Over 15,000 pieces of candy were dropped from the plane. My neighbor and I estimated there were between 700 and 800 adults and children gathered to see this spectacular. And spectacular it was. When all the candy was on the ground and the OK given, a mass stampede occurred onto the field with adults and kids alike yelling and screaming to get to these pieces of gold that will eventually send one to the dentist. The scrambling lasted all of 15 minutes and all the candy was picked up. And as expected there were tears of joy by those who got an abundance of treasure and tears of sorrow by those who came away with little in the sacks. All in all I must say it looked liked this new addition to the Yogi Bear Campground in Plymouth, Indiana, was a hit.
Those who didn't get much candy at the plane drop certainly made up for it during the trick or treating hours.
At night you could smell the cooking over a burning fire and children running around like wild indians from the candy consumed during the day and night. My heart felt sorrow to those who had to try and put their children to sleep with all that sugar in them.
Until next year!!!!!!!!!

THE WINNER

I don't know how many of you watched America's Got Talent last night but the winner was a surprise. My favorite, Barbara Padilla, didn't win. That's OK because she had so much publicity that someone, if they are smart, will sign her to a good contract.
As far as the winner goes, Kevin Skinner, I am happy for him. He is unemployed, has a family and to bring in money for him family sings in a bar. Now he won't have to. Good luck to Kevin in the future. A whole new world has opened before he and his family.

TOMORROW IS THE NIGHT

If you have been watching America's Got Talent you know that tomorrow night is when we will find out who will win the million dollars and get a show in Las Vegas.
After watching the show last night and seeing how everyone has unscaled their act, everyone is qualified to an extent, but there is one person that excelled above and beyond all others and is my favorite, that being Barbara Padilla. Not only is the a cancer survivor, she is a beautiful lady that has the voice that can bring a tear to your eye. I voted for her and hope enough other people did too to make her a star. Even if she doesn't win she will go on to bigger and better things because America has heard her sing.
Others who performed were the Texas Tenors, Kevin Skinner, Grandma Lee (funny lady) and Recycled Percussion (similar to the Blue Man Group) these people were at the top of my list, but no number 1 like Barbara.
Be sure to watch tomorrow at 7:00 central time on NBC.

GETTING TO THE END

Getting to the end. Don't want to see it come. Don't want to have to do it. I'm talking about the end of the camping season. Around the middle of October the park shuts the water off and that pretty much ends the camping season for six months. That is always a sad time because you have to say goodbye to friends who are scattered all over and you won't see them until next April.
This weekend is the Halloween weekend when people decorate their campers and the children get to go trick-or-treating thru the park. This year the park is doing something different and that is having a candy drop from an airplane. They have over 10,000 pieces of candy that will be dropped onto the baseball field and the children will be let loose to gather as much as they can. Of course the children will be kept away from the field until after the candy is dropped. Thank God. They plan on having two drops. Also planned for the day are games, food and a wagon ride through the haunted woods followed by a dance for young and old. Sounds like a fun day.
I had some good news this weekend and that is that John and Shirley, good friends of mine, have gotten engaged to be married. I'm very happy for them.
I am looking for a fun weekend next week and that weekend brings one week closer to the end of the camping season.

WHAT SHOULD A GIRL DO?

Some people can take things too far, far enough to make some people quit their job.
My daughter in Texas is raising three kids without the help of a loser whom she left, good thing,. She worked for a nursing home after taking the tests required to do that kind of work. After saving enough money to live on for awhile she left the loser and filed for divorce. Things are not going easy.
She managed to get a similar job with a company in the new town where she lives. She takes care of a 20+ man who is blind and in a fetal position. She feeds him, gives him his meds, reads to him, changes his diaper and does whatever else is required to make him comfortable. The mans mother doesn't want to supply rubber gloves for my daughter saying they are too expensive. This woman owns two dogs and requires my daughter to clean up the crap in the yard. NO, NO, NO. I say my daughter is there to take care of the son, NOTHING ELSE.
Lady, clean up your own crap or have your husband do it.
At $8.25 a hour, taking care of the son is enough.
To my daughter. START LOOKING FOR ANOTHER JOB!!!!!!

INTERESTING PHONE CALL

At four fifteen this afternoon I received a phone call from my daughter, Lorri, who lives in Texas. She was almost in tears and here it the situation.
She is new to the area of Killeen and doesn't know anyone who could help if she needs it. She is on her way home from work and she heard a knock under her van and pieces of something behind her. No lights came on and the van was still running OK. She called me, 1200 miles away and asked if I knew what was wrong. Are you kidding me. She asked if I would stay on the phone with her until she got home. She vented all the way. Twenty minutes later she was home and all I could determine was that she must have hit something on the road like a tire. She is going to call my son who is a mechanic and look under the hood as he walks her through what should be and not be under the hood.
I told her she should make some friends quick so she can get some help out there.
