THE BIG WRAP-UP

Now that the shopping is done it is time to wrap your treasures so they can appear under the Christmas tree on that special morning. Lets keep in mind that it is not only the day Santa brings gifts but the most important thing is that Christ was born on this day.
If you are one of those people who wrap their gifts the same day or next, you should be finished, if you are finished shopping. Some people, like me, leave the wrapping until the last minute. Fortunately for me I am giving mostly gift cards so I just have to put them into a card although I do have a few gifts to warp. God help those who are still shopping for that perfect gift.
As I mentioned yesterday, DeLaney, my granddaughter, bought a gift for her mother and this morning we wrapped it. Thank goodness I have a large selection of wrapping paper for her to choose from. It took her some time to make her decision. After careful measuring and cutting the paper three times the perfect measurement was achieved. When it was time to tape, each piece of tape had to be the same size. With this done it was time to pick out a name tag from the couple of hundred I acquired over the years. With this done and the name tag affixed to the gift a big smile appeared on DeLaney's face and the words "PERFECT" rolled over her lips and we were done.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

THE INNOCENCE OF A CHILD

With school out and me watching Delaney all day it is hard to find things to do to keep her occupied. She likes to go to Alsip Nursery and look around especially at the puppies. We usually get there about two times a week and then go to lunch.
Today was puppy day which meant a trip to Alsip. At Alsip there are thousands and thousands of floral arrangements, Christmas decorations, Christmas trees as well as fountains, Christmas lights and collectibles of every kind.
As we walked through this wonderland Delaney was reminded that she had not purchased a Christmas gift for her mother. This upset her a great deal. I told her I would go to Wal-Mart and get something and wrap for her. This was not acceptable. She had to pick it out and she wanted to find something here at Alsip, take it home and asked if I would help her wrap it.
We walked and looked for some time. As I watched her look for that special gift it brought a tear to my eye knowing that this little girl wanted to get that special, special gift for her mother. She finally settled for a glass jewelry box the had the inscription of "To my Mother and Best Friend"
There is still love in this world and in the hearts of little ones.

WHO LOVES CHRISTMAS?

When it comes to Christmas I think everyone should decorate, especially the stores who want you to spend your money on their merchandise to make your loved ones happy on Christmas morning.
As I walked into Wal-Mart I saw a small Christmas tree and that was the end of their decorations. Is this all they can afford or do they just not care. I also went to Wendy's in Schererville, Indiana for lunch and as I sat eating it dawned on me that the songs that were coming over the intercom were not Christmas songs and as I looked around I did not see one Christmas decoration. I will have to take note today as I go out again, to see which stores have decorated for for this holiday. One place I know for sure that recognizes the time of year is Arby's in Schererville, Indiana. They have a beautiful manger scene positioned behind the counter where everyone can see it. It is a wonderful way to remind everyone that this season is not just about Santa and toys but the birth of Christ which I think people have put in second place behind Santa.
Let's make a switch, Santa and Christ and make things right.

LETS HAVE A BAKE SALE - NOT!

Well folks, big brother is sticking their nose into places where it doesn't belong. They are now saying that schools will be limited to the number of bake sales and other fund raisers they can have per year. The reason is that THE ITEMS SOLD ARE BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH AND CAUSE WEIGHT GAIN. I would love to see what these idiots have for snacks and how many do they have per day.
This would mean less Taffy Apples, Popcorn and whatever else is sold to raise money to help pay for things the government has cut back on.
Who comes up with these ideas? Maybe instead of sticking their nose in the school's business they should stick their heads up their ass and leave it there.
Things are getting more ridiculous every day.

WHAT IS TODAY?

I trust everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I know I did. Got my fill of football also. Can't figure because I was never a football fan while my wife was alive, now I'm really into it.
What is this thing I am hearing about today "CYBER MONDAY". Is this the aftermath of Black Friday only today you don't leave your home because is all done online. It must be true because I was in Wal-Mart today and the place was empty and no bumping into people in the aisle's When it was time for me to check out I had my choice of check-out aisles.

DID YOUR FAVORITE WIN?

Dancing With The Stars. Did your favorite team win?
After watching the two hour program it all came down to Jennifer and Kyle. I knew that Bristol didn't have a chance. It was a nail biter with Jennifer and Kyle standing there waiting for the results of the voters. Waiting for the words from Tom, the crowd screaming and the forever lasting drum roll the words finally came. The winners are Jennifer and Derek. Bad back and all Jennifer pulled it off with grace and finesse like the true champion she is. Baby is not in the corner.

WHAT A NINE YEAR OLD WANTS FOR CHRISTMAS.

My grand daughter wait for the mail and newspapers every day know that there will be adds for toys all the way to Christmas. She studies them and circles what she wants Santa to bring her. She has quite an extensive list compiled up to this point.
The other day she said to her mother that whatever her mother was thinking of getting her and what Santa should bring is a pair of crutches. She would ask for a wheelchair but they are too expensive.
Mom asked why she would want such a thing and her reply was that there are two kids in school that have them and she thinks that they are neat and if the top of the crutch wears down she could always put a towel on it and secure the towel with duct tape.
Mom went on to explain that if they could, the two kids in school would gladly give theirs to her and walk and run like my grand daughter does. They do not have them by choice but need them to help them walk and maybe they will need them for the rest of their life. We hope not.
I think that explanation has her seeing crutches and the two kids in a different light.
My grand daughter is 9 years old and I hope she got a lesson about life.

TO WASH OR NOT TO WASH.

As a elderly gentleman who lives alone with no female guidance I think that I keep my house reasonably clean. My wife taught me well. I dust, vacuum, wash windows and clean toilets and sinks. I also wash floors and that is where I am having the problem. It is a big decision for me to choose one of the options that I have. Do I wash with a mop using Mr. Clean, use a Swifter Wet Mop or do the old fashioned thing of getting on my hands and knees with a brush. It is a no-wax floor that is about 5 years old and has some ground in dirt in the grooves of the tile. In my hay-day I would have no problem getting down with the brush and making the floor shine like a diamond but things are different now. I an 70 that if I get down to scrub I may not be able to get up again. What if I had to use the bathroom, would be able to get up fast enough and get there. Lets think about the day after. What will my muscles say to me and will I be laying on my back for weeks to come. Will I have to get 911 involved?
I have given thought to these questions and have decided that I will have to ponder this task another day over a cup or two of coffee while sitting at the kitchen looking at the floor or glancing at it during commercials as I watch tv.
Maybe a better solution is to let my kids notice how dirty it is and they will wash it. LOL.
Either way it will be done by the end of the week.

TO BAKE OR NOT TO BAKE.

With the holidays coming and with both my mother and wife now baking in heavens ovens I really miss the smell and taste of all the wonderful goodies they would make around this time. All of the old country recipes passed down to my mother from her mother and then down to my wife. Now, since they are gone, so are the pastries and specially baked, once a year, goodies.
Fortunately for me the recipes are still with me circled in books or written on ancient crumbling paper giving the ingredients of these tasty delights. The problem is that I am a man who cooks very little and eats my share of frozen dinners or take out. Lord knows that I have all of the pots and pans, cookie baking trays, measuring spoons, spices, bowls and whatever else is needed to complete these tasks. Maybe when I finish this I will sit down with the over one foot high stack of recipes and start thumbing through them and try my luck and surprise my married kids and grand kids with grandpa's ability to bake.

GOOD ALIBI

Mr. Donald Mosley Jr. walked into Cedars Inn in Lewiston, Idaho and asked for, no he demanded that the desk clerk give him cash. When you come down to it he was robbing this hotel.
After he left, police were called and the search began.
Like all good thief's Donald needed a good alibi as to where he was at the time of the robbery so he ducked into the bar next to the hotel. Fifteen minutes after the police arrived they had their man. He was in the bar next to the hotel, the name of the bar was the Alibi bar and that is where he said he was. What an alibi.

WHERE IS THANKSGIVING?

Being retired I watch a lot of TV. Just yesterday it dawned on me after seeing commercial after commercial about Christmas and New Year's Eve, that I haven't seen anything about Thanksgiving. You can bet your bottom that the big and little stores are getting the word out about buying gifts for the mailman, teacher, paper boy, next door neighbor, the guy that mows your lawn and shovels your snow etc and get your child's favorite toy NOW before they are gone. Get your Christmas decorations NOW before they are gone and you won't have the best looking house on the block and make your New Year's Eve reservations now for your end of the year party. With all of the talk about how bad the economy is and how many people are out of work, who is going to have the money to do the things that the media is pushing into your face.
Every day there are books, not sale books, full of toys for the children to look at, circle what they want Santa or mom and dad to get them for Christmas. Things in these books are not cheap.
Where are the toys that were under $10.00 when I was a kid. Now they are anywhere from $25.00 to $500.00 and you know damn well that if a large amount of money is not spent on your little and big kings and queens it was a terrible Christmas.
Ads for diamond rings or necklaces are put on the tv with prices starting at $1300.00.
With all this pressure put upon us you can just see the credit card balances going up and up and up.
Lets get smart and give these merchants a surprise and not spend as much as they are hoping we will.
One more thing. DON'T FORGET THANKSGIVING. Decorate for that holiday too.

I'D LIKE TO THANK OUR GOVERNMENT.

How many seniors are trying to survive on just Social Security? Statistics say approx. 58 million. Does our powers of being care? HELL NO. If they cared they would not have cancelled a Social Security increase another year. The reason is that inflation has been too low. It's obvious that these do nothings have not gone shopping for food or medicine. Everything that I buy has gone up in price, some so high that I can't afford them anymore.
While I think about it now would be a good time to get rid of Nancy Pelosi. She is a Democrat that wants to stay on a Speaker Of The House. Get rid of her and control her spending and there would be enough money for a SS increase.
After Tuesday's election is will be interesting to see how much money will be spent on redecorating offices for the new elected officials.
Thank you government.

THE PARTY IS OVER!

Yes folks, the party is over. The party that I look forward to every weekend. It is not a drinking party but a party where we sit around a campfire and talk, laugh and eat. You can't imagine the amount of satisfaction and fun a group of people can have at these gatherings.
As of last Monday the campground started shutting off water for the winter. All but one restroom will be closed, not that I needed one since I have a bathroom in my camper. The golf cart has been stored and covered to protect it from Mother Nature.
Now I have to look for things to do on the weekends. I can only walk through Menards, Home Depot, Target, Wal-Mart and other stores so many times before next April when the campground opens again.
At least last weekend was beautiful and we enjoyed our last camp fire until next year.
On Sunday goodbyes were said, hugs and kisses were given and tears were seen in some eyes as we departed the campground until next year.
Have a good winter friends.

THE NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!

Did you ever have a dream where you were trying to do something or get away from someone or something?
My grandsons Spencer and Aiddin did just that. This morning they both said that today was pajama day at school. My daughter said it was tomorrow and not today. Both boys insisted that it was today and that they were going to wear pj's and that was it even though the school calendar said it was tomorrow. Both boys said the calendar was wrong.
All decked out in the fancy pj's both boys stood outside and waited for the bus to arrive. When it did they both jumped aboard and at that moment they knew that mom was right. Pj day was tomorrow, Friday, and that they were the only one's on the bus with pj's. They became the laughing stock of the bus along with the embarrassment that came along with it. The bus driver was sympathetic and waited while the boys ran back inside and got proper attire.
Let this be a lesson to you know-it-all kids that mom knows best.

SURPRISES IN THE MAIL

We all like a surprise no matter if it comes on the phone, the front door or in the mail. It's nice to get one, maybe.
Mine came in the mail this morning. It was my car insurance bill. The surprise was that my premium had gone up $115.00 for six months for a total of $230.00 a year. How could that be? I have not had an accident or filed any claims. Wait, I turned 70 this year. Could that be it? If so isn't that age discrimination. But wait, insurance companies can do that without any explanation. I'm on just Social Security and we folks got screwed by not getting a raise this year or next and when we do Medicare will go up and there goes the raise.
Stop picking on the old folks by taking things away from us. I can list many things that can be done but I don't have enough space on the computer to list them all.
It's a sad state of affairs.

THEIR GONE!

Who is gone you say. Well if you have been watching Dancing With The Stars you would know.
It amazes me to see how the stars work and work at rehearsal and it looks like they will not have it for the show and bingo they come out and give a wonderful performance.
Although there were two who did not get it and I don't think they will ever get it and that is David Hasselhoff and Michael Bolton. They both looked like galloping horses that could not gallop. They would have to fall into the same category as Kate Gosslin who had no style at all and still does not have it on her new show. How do people get these jobs and get paid that kind of money?
I am looking forward to the next show to see how the Situation will do. I don't think that he is far behind Hasselhoff and Bolton. We will just have to wait and see.

ROLL-BACK OR ROLL-UP PRICES.

Wal-Mart does a lot of advertising about ROLL-BACK prices. I have noticed that there are also ROLL-UP prices as well.
As a diabetic I use test strips to test my blood and have noticed that the brand that I use has gone up about $2.00. I enjoy their Great Value potato chips and have noticed that they have gone from $1.75 to $1.98. Being a widower I don't cook much so I rely on microwave dinners. The brand that I use is Smart Ones which have gone UP in price from $1.88 to $1.98.
Come to think about it I haven't seen a roll-back commercial in a while. Are they no longer rolling back?.

AND THE WINNER IS!

Did your favorite win on America's Got Talent? In the back of my mind I knew that Prince Poppycock and Fighting Gravity were out of it, leaving Michael Grimm and Jackie Evancho. Both of these entertainers have different styles but both can capture an audience and either one would do a wonderful Las Vegas show.
The show hit a new high when super stars were brought in to perform with the acts. Jewel performed with Michael Grimm giving a wonderful performance. Sara Brightman singing with Jackie Evancho giving an eye watering rendition of It's Time To Say Goodbye. That performance gave me goose bumps. When the end came it was between Michael Grimm and Jackie Evancho. You could hear a pin drop as the tension built waiting for the winners name to be announced. When it came it was Michael Grimm.
In my opinion Michael and Jackie will both have a wonderful career.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE?

If you have been watching America's Got Talent from the beginning like I have, you have probably had many, many favorites. I have seen a lot of good acts and I have also seen those acts go, some good and some bad.
As you may or may not know, tonite is the night that the winner is chosen from the final four. They gave it their all last night and America will choose the winner of the million dollars.
There are three singers and a novelty act to choose from. I would have bet that Prince Poppycock had it in the bag until last night. His act was too serious unlike his other acts where comedy was incorporated and the acts were really entertaining, but not last night. I think that it will be between Michael Grimm and Jackie Evancho.
Tune in tonight and find out who goes home with the money. My money is on Jackie Evancho.
What's your choice?

OUT OF THE RECYCLE BIN.

How many times have you walked by the school or office recycle bin and saw something in there that looked interesting and you had to have it. This happened in school to my granddaughter DeLaney. Passing by the bin she saw detention slips and thought that it would be funny to play a joke on her mom. She took a hand full of slips and filled one out to present to her mother. This would be easy to do since all of the skips were pre-signed by her teacher. It was a pre-printed form so all she had to do was fill in the blanks such as name, month and return date which she put in as tomorrow.
Well on the ride home on the school bus she thought it would be a good idea to fill in just the month and return parts and hand them out to the first graders of which there were about 10 on the bus.
My daughter had a meeting with the teacher and principle about another matter the next day. When the principle walked in he said "you will never guess what your daughter did" and proceeded to tell her about the detention slips. He said he had phone calls from all of the mothers whose children were given one by DeLaney to see what it was all about. Of course none of the children had detentions.
What it boils down to is a child with a active imagination and a sense of humor. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

THE WEEKEND!

Because the campground closes in mid October, we have things a little early. For instance today is Halloween with trick-or-treat, haunted trails, games and other special events. This will be the first time I will miss this event in the 13 years I have owned a camper at Jellystone Camp Resort. I will miss it.
There is a good reason to miss this event and that is because there is another special one time event happening, that being the 50th wedding anniversary of my brother and sister in law. They will be celebrating with about 80 guests and I will get to see friends and relatives that I rarely see. It will be good to catch up on family news and most of all eat good food and have a few drinks.
I am staying at their house overnight with tomorrow being a day to relax chit-chat and maybe even watch the Bears game. At any rate it will be a very nice weekend.

THE LAST BIG WEEKEND

This weekend the campground will be loaded with campers looking to grasp the last of summer fun. The campground is the Yogi Bear Camp Resort in Plymouth, Indiana which is also home of one of the biggest Arts and Crafts Festivals in the country, THE BLUEBERRY FESTIVAL. It attracts thousands from all over who will walk through isle after isle of vendors selling their wares. The air will be filled with mouth watering smells of various types of foods including Blueberry Donuts. A must have.
My wife and I bought out camper because of the festival. It was easier to drive the 10 minutes to the camper than it was to drive an hour and a half home. With being at the campground we can shop a while go back to the camper for a rest of nap and return to the festival later and be refreshed.
Well anyway it's going to be a great weekend even if I don't go to the festival. I will enjoy this weekend just hanging with friends

BIG WEEKEND THIS WEEKEND

Being alone one always looks forward to special events, and those are coming. On 9-11 it will the the 50th anniversary of my in-laws Bob and Dottie. The other big event is happening this weekend for John Snyder and Shirley Cox. They are getting married and I am very glad for them. John has been a friend of mine for some years and lost his wife about six years ago. He met Shirley a few years ago and they hit it off right away.
The wedding is this Saturday and will be held in church and from there it's off to party with a full blown evening of dinner and dancing with about 130 friends and relatives participating.
It couldn't happen to a nicer couple.
GOOD LUCK AND A HAPPY LIFE TO JOHN AND SHIRLEY.

THEY ARE STILL DOING IT.

With the children being in school for nearly a week now, the gathering of mom's in the morning and afternoon to send off and greet their children as if they are going away for months and have returned from months away at school. It's cute but I wonder if it will be like this when it is 20 below zero. Will the mothers still be sending them off and greeting them especially when the bus stops right in front of our house.

LOVE THOSE "ROLL BACK PRICES"

For the most part we, the shoppers, are largely dependent on large retail stores, namely Wal-Mart. We sit in front of the TV and continually listen to their employees saying that they are helping America spend less with their "ROLL BACK PRICES".
Question. What did they roll back? Prices on small non essential items such as scotch tape, mustard and this list could go on and on. Prices on things that people really need, those prices were increased. Milk was increased as well as bread. Check for yourself from week to week or even day to day.
I am a diabetic and need test strips. Three months ago I was paying $27.97 and today I am paying $30.97. Where are the "ROLL BACK PRICES" on the items we really need.
If you can check the prices. You could probably get the same item elsewhere for less.
Thank you Wal-Mart for your interest in the American public.

BACK FROM TEXAS AND NOTHING TO DO.

On the second of July my daughter her new husband and four grand kids arrived in Indiana. Mom and dad plus two grand kids went back to Texas leaving two grand kids with me for a few weeks. We all enjoyed being together and celebrating the 4th of July, it was the first time me and my kids spent a holiday together in a long time.
The two that stayed with me had a good time here visiting a few of the family members and going to my camper for 5 days.
As always all good things have to come to an end, well almost. On the 20th of July we headed back to Texas because Spencer had to start football practice.
With both mom and dad working it was up to me to entertain the kids for the day. We did a lot. Some of the things we did in the three weeks that I was there were go to the Waco Zoo, Belton Water Park, Fuddruckers for lunch, Cicc's for lunch, McDonald's more than once for lunch, swimming several times, Olive Garden for dinner with mom and dad and to the movies to see Dog's and Cats in 3D and watching Spencer at football practice in 100+ temps on each Monday, Wednesday and Thursday while I was there.
This young man blew me away as he showed his ability to plow through every player put up against him. HE IS A BULL DOZER. I only regret that I could not have stayed longer to see his first football game. I know he will make his parents proud.
Again all good things must come to an end and that happened August 9 when I headed back to Indiana and now I sit with nothing to do.

GOIN TO THE LONE STAR STATE.

Tomorrow I will be going to the Lone Star State. In case some of you don't know that would be TEXAS. Songs like Yellow Rose of Texas and The Eyes Of Texas Are Upon You are just a couple of songs that reflect on the biggest state in the union. I was first introduced to Texas by way of a little town, I do mean little, that being Shiner. Population 2007 now 2003 now that my daughter and three kids moved out. Killeen is now their new home.
The reason for the trip is to return my two grand kids who have spent three weeks with me. It was fun and I'm sure they had a good time here and at my camper where they had unlimited fun. Now it's time to return to football practice and getting ready for school.
I'm driving and will have the company of three of my grand kids, Angelica, Spencer and Delaney.
When I drop them off I will stay approx three weeks and then return home. I will miss them but there is always next year and trips in between.
Looking forward to a nice trip.

SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP!!!!

I have been watching America's Got Talent since it started and find that there is one thing that really makes me mad. When a talent comes out on stage and starts to sing, dance or whatever, the audience starts screaming and yelling to the point that you can't hear the entertainer sing or do whatever they do.
To the audience. SIT DOWN, SHUT UP AND CHEER AAAAFFFFFTTTTEEEEERRRR THE PERFORMER FINISHES.
NUFF SAID.

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT FINAL PICKS.

If you have been watching this program you know that last night was the night that the choosing of the 48 contestants was completed and I must say that most of my favorites were chosen.
I'm still upset about the women who hand whistles and the other that sings off key. Another that was put through to Hollywood that I thought should not be there was the guy who did impressions of Clint Eastwood and Arnold S. but this time did a stint on waking up and getting ready for work.
Others much, much better could be there in his place.
Are the judges worthy of being able to pick the good talent?

AMERICA'S GOT TALENT.

Are you watching America's Got Talent? I like the show and watch it faithfully. At times I do not agree with the judges. Last night started the eliminations to choose the persons going for the $1,000,000.00 and the Las Vegas show.
I must admit the judges must have been drinking something. They sent some good talent home while keeping terrible ones. For instance, how about the red headed women in her 70 who can not sing on key or play the piano. She should have definitely been sent home or the older women who did hand whistling, she should have went too. Do they keep these people as a joke and letting good talent go home? If that is the case I think that, that is terrible. Those two people will never win the contest and if they did who would want to listen to them put on a show in Las Vegas for an hour and who would sign them to a record contract or be hired to do a nightly show. Come on judges, don't piss us off.

THE 4TH IS OVER!!!!!

My Fourth of July weekend actually started on Thursday with the arrival of my daughter and her family from Texas. Actually there were six of them. Lorri, Jeremy, Spencer, Aiddin, Angelica and Destiny. Jeremy is a career Army man Staff Sargent who arrived back from Iraq last December. On this trip he had a few firsts in him life. For dinner on Thursday we had pan pizza which Jeremy has never had and an original cheese pizza. They don't make pizza in Texas like they do here. Another first for him was the granddaddy of them all, THE SLIDER from White Castle. He made the mistake of having the night before he left for home. My daughter who also had them said they made many stops along the way because of them.
To get back to the weekend. On Friday we went to my camper where we spent the day and night, returning to my home late Saturday.
It's Lorri's belief that the 4th is not the 4th without seeing a parade. On the 4th after all the scrambling around we got to the Merrillville, IN parade where all had a good time and Lorri was satisfied. From there we went to my daughter Julie's house for a BBQ and the celebration of my and her daughter, Delaney's, birthday. After the traditional singing of Happy Birthday, do we have to pay royalties to someone for doing that?, we went outside for fireworks. Julies neighbor had a cannon in his yard and when that thing went off, the whole neighborhood shook. As the night progressed the fireworks became more and more and louder and louder. This went on far into the night. I must mention that Lorri stopped in Missouri at a place called Boomland. Many of you might have been there yourself. It's on I57 just over the Illinois line. I can't begin to describe what they bought but it was alot. She said her husband was like a kid in a candy store. So with the combination of Julie's neighbor and Lorri's fireworks it went on for hours. It's a good thing everyone on the block was invited to the parties.
Around midnight our party broke up because Lorri and her family were leaving the next morning, but Julie said her neighbors party was still going at 3a.m along with the fireworks.
The next morning my son, Kevin took us out for breakfast and after that we came back to my house where everyone said their goodbye's and Lorri was on her way back to Texas at 12p.m leaving Angelica and Spencer with me for a couple of weeks at which time I will take them back to Texas

WHAT IS THE BIG ONE?

As far as birthdays go what do you consider the BIG ONE. Is it when on reaches the age of 21 and can go to the corner bar and tip a few. Is it 30 and it's the black balloon when a person hits the age of 40. Along with this age comes a black cake and numerous other gifts that relate to the parting from this earth. God forbid the ages of 50 and 60 or is it really 65 when you retire and rid yourself of the everyday grind of going to work.
Let me tell you, yesterday did I hit the BIG ONE at the age of 70? I don't think so and for sure I never thought of those earlier years as being the BIG ONE. At 70 I am ready for the second round of living and that won't happen if you sit on your ass and feel sorry for yourself. 70 is a great age. Maybe it will be different at 80. Hope not.

EXCITING WEEKEND COMING UP.

This weekend, I hope will be a money maker. I mean that the Yogi Bear Camp Resort annual yard sale is this weekend and there will be many treasures to be found. Yogi Bear Camp Resort is located in Plymouth, Indiana and yes the park will be open to the public. The time is from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..
If we are blesses with good weather it should be a great event. Hope to see you there.

CAN'T BELIEVE I DID IT.

Was at the camper this weekend to meet with the man who fixed my air conditioner. When something like that breaks all one can think of it big $$$$$$$$$. Much to my surprise it was not big $$$$$$$$$ but only $217.00 and it works like a charm, although it was cool this weekend and I didn't have to use it.
As you might know there were several severe storms that came through Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. They were flashing storm and tornado warnings all night on tv. Well about midnight I fell asleep and woke about 6:30 am looked out my patio window and saw that it had rained. Met some friends later and they asked me if I had heard the heavy winds, sirens, thunder and did I see the lightning. People were also going around the campground telling people to go to the comfort stations for protection. I must have been extremely tired because I didn't hear a thing. Maybe it was a good thing I didn't. My camper is located at the end of the man made lake forming the letter Y for Yogi Bear and this part of the lake is known as Tornado Alley.
I was sorry to hear of the loss of lives and property due to the storms.

WHAT A WONDERFUL WEEKEND

If you were like me, the weekend started on Friday. Went to the camper to open up and get ready for the flea market that is held every year at our Yogi Bear Camp Resort in Plymouth, IN.
Got everything prepared on Friday and got up at 5:30 a.m. Saturday to assure I got a table to sell my wares. I have been doing this for at least 8 years and I really, really think that this was my last year. With all the work I put into this thing and putting up with the heat, 92 degrees, this is funny, I only made $2.30 for my trouble. I must say one has to sell a lot of items at ten and 25 cents to make anything. But that was that.
The rest of the was trying to keep cool because my air conditioner was broke and nobody would come out to fix it on the weekend. Many of the repair companies were not allowed to come in the park. What the hell is that all about, $$$$$$$$$?
The weekend was not a total bust because I enjoyed good food and conversation with my neighbors.
My daughter came out on Sunday and had a nice hot day. My son came out on Monday and the day was hot but quickly turned much colder and the rains came. If I recall the same thing happened the last time he was there. Maybe one day he will get it right, right.
Finally today I got someone to come out next Saturday to fix the ac. All I can see in front of my eyes is $$$$$$$$$$$. Hope not.

THE FLAG

Today I had the pleasure of attending the third grade honoring the flag of this country, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. There must have been 150+ children participating and each one was eager to show, tell or sing about our flag. Each state was mentioned in alphabetical order and songs such as America the Beautiful, God Bless America and several other patriotic songs, and of course the daddy of them all the Star Spangled Banner.
As I looked around I don't think that there was a dry eye from the 300 or so people who attended. Seeing these third grade kids giving such a performance gave chills through everyone.
One thing that was missed during the program was the Pledge Of Allegiance. Why was this? Was it not said so it would not offend anyone of maybe because it had the word God in it. If we offend someone by saying the Pledge, SO WHAT. Let them get the hell out of this country.
Sitting in front of me we two women with rags wrapped around their heads speaking in their tongue, whatever the hell that was. If you came to a program honoring our flag the least you can do is speak the language.
With that said I must say the children did a wonderful job and were proud of letting their friends and family know that they knew about THEIR flag and THEIR country.

WE DID IT!!!!!

It's probably not what your thinking but it was just as much fun. Friends and I enjoyed the last two weekends enjoying each others company. Eating, joking and sitting around the campfire while enjoying two beautiful weekends.
Food was great and the stories being told were both serious and funny. We even had a discussion about an old friend Jack Mee-Hoff. Many stories and laughs were offered at his expense.
Looking forward to this Memorial Day weekend at the campground with it's festivities and huge flea market to be held on Saturday.
I hope it isn't too hot because my air conditioner is not working and I know if I call a repair man out on this holiday weekend it will cost me a fortune. At least I will have the comfort of a fan.
As I said before I am looking forward to this weekend and hope that you are too.
Have a safe and happy Memorial Day.

WATCH WHERE YOU SIT LADIES.

This story comes from the Valparaiso, In. area.
A 20 year old punk is accused of battering his girlfriend in front of his house. The girlfriend said she got into the car on the passenger side and accidentally sat on his cigarettes and he got mad at which he started hitting her in the face.
It seems to me that what we have here is a young punk who needs a little jail time and some anger management courses. Maybe that would make him act like a normal human being.

TO JEN

Jen, thanks for the comment. Go for it and God Bless You. Those people over there are nuts. They should keep their thoughts and their damn wars.

YOU ARE AT FAULT LADIES.

Yes, yes, yes ladies you are at fault for all of the earthquakes that are happening around the world.
You ask how? Well it is the way you dress and how you behave promiscuously. Let's get one thing straight. I didn't say it. It was said by an Iranian cleric named Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi who ever the hell he is. Sedighi is Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader.
All I can say is I feel sorry for him in not recognizing the good things in life. Also I don't think that he knows that Iran is one of the world's most earthquake-prone countries. See what the lack of education will do for you.
Ladies! Keep up the good work.
The countries President is certain to hit Tehran and that many of its 12 million inhabitants should relocate. I hope he doesn't mean to the United States. Maybe he is working on this with Obama now.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT WARREN.

THE TIGER IS BACK.

This past Sunday I watched the PGA Golf Tournament. There he was in all of his glory, Tiger Woods. It seemed that this man could do nothing wrong in the eyes of the onlookers. I really think that his presence took away from the other good players. Every time Tiger approached a tee, hit a ball or approached a green there would be a standing ovation with the applause lasting long beyond what they should have. If he hit into the rough people cheered, hit into a sand trap people cheered or missed a putt, people cheered. It was as if no-one else was playing.
I have never seen Tiger smile so much. Was it that he was glad that people had forgiven him for his off the course antics or was he thinking about how foolish people were to forgive him and he will now, after all of his tears and apology's, go on to make his millions doing ads.
As I watched the spectators make fools of themselves I wondered whose or how many pictures he carried with him to give him luck.

CAMPER NOW OPEN

This past weekend was spent at the camper. Beautiful weather. It was great to get back there. Not all people are there yet but it was good to see those that were. We even had a campfire at Don and Lori's place even though they were staying only for the day.
I spent my Sunday just relaxing, napping and watching tv.
At any rate I'm glad it's camping time again.

LET'S GO TO A PARTY SIS.

This story comes from New Jersey. A 15 year old girl got an invitation from some young men to come to their party. When she went she took her 7 year old step sister with her to a apartment down the street from where they live.
Upon arriving things turned ugly as the 7 year old was gang raped by as many as 7 men as her sister watched and also got paid by each of the men.
The teen sister has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, promoting prostitution and other crimes.
I do hope that this sister spends some time in jail and put on probation for a long, long time. She is a sick child.

RETURNING FROM TEXAS

I left Texas on Friday after attending my daughters wedding a week ago.
Things that I learned along the way. The cost of a motel room is more expensive at Quality Inn than it is at Baymont Inn. In Texas, Arkansas and Missouri gas prices range from $2.54 to $2.65. As soon as I crossed into Illinois the gas prices were $2.89+. While in Arkansas I purchased three Big Mac meals and one chicken nugget meal which ran me $20.00. I purchased the same exact meal in Illinois and it was $4.00 more.
The speed limit thru Texas, Arkansas and Missouri was 70 miles per hour, upon entering Illinois it dropped to 65 and those still using the 70 mph limit were greeted by the State Police. When I crossed over the Mississippi River I saw three cars pulled over for speeding.
If Illinois can raise gas and food prices, why can't they raise the speed limit? Maybe they need the money so they can skim from those funds.
Anyway if you are crossing into Illinois from another state, watch your speed. THEY ARE WAITING.

GOING TO TEXAS

On the 20th of March my daughter Lorri will be getting married to a gentleman in the United States Army. I do hope they will be very happy in their new journey together. This means that Angelica, Spencer and Aiddin will have a new daddy. I haven't met him yet but from what I have heard about him form everyone and also how he has taken them under his wing and cared for them he seems like a good catch for Lorri.
It's a day and a half drive from here to Killeen Texas, and that is not bad. With me I will be taking possibly my three grandchildren. If they go it will be the first time in two years since all have been together. The ages of the three I am taking with me are 8, 10 and 13.
I will be returning on the 27th of March from what I hope will have been a good time and warm weather.

TODAY WAS A TEASER!

We got a teasing today of spring. The temperature hit a high of 51 degrees. This kind of weather brings to mind of all the wonderful things that will happen in the weeks to come. Trees will start budding, Robbin's will be returning, grass will start to turn green and need to be mowed, thank God I live in a community that does that for us, and the best thing to happen is that the Yogi Bear Campground in Plymouth, Indiana will turn on its water for lot owners which means we can begin going there and getting away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. It's been a long winter. Can't wait to sit on the patio here, read the paper and have a cup of coffee. Also can't wait to sit around a campfire again enjoying jokes and conversation with friends. My wife loved that place and I sure wish she was here to go back with me.

QUIET NIGHT NOW THAT THE OLYMPICS ARE OVER.

The Olympics are over and there really isn't anything good on tv anymore except reality show and I think that enough of those have been shoved down our throats.
The Olympics gave us something to look forward to, speed, grace and at time a sense of danger that would keep you on the edge of your seat.
Of course there are always the Russians that have to piss and moan about something. This time is was the figure skating in the men's competition. Even the President of Russia had to stick his nose in. I look at it this way. If he was as good as the American Gold Medal winner then the Russian would have won. He gave me the impression that he thought he was better that everyone else. NOT.
All events were top notch and the winners deserved what they won.
My heart goes out for the athletes that have lost sons and mothers during this exciting time in their life and also the the family of Nodar Kumaritashvili of Georgia. For them it will be hard to forget since it happened during the Olympics.
I hope that the Olympics in 2014 will be just as exciting minus the sorrows of these games.

A TEAR CAME INTO MY EYE.

When do tears come into your eyes. At sad occasions and happy occasions, that's when tears fill my eyes.
The other day a noted sports figure stood before his family, fans, ex-fans and other who followed his career and idolized him unaware that he was not the man they thought he was. His ability to play the sport he was famous for and his smile captivated the world of sports involved in golf. He had everyone fooled. His beautiful wife, family members, critics and host of followers who spent their hard earned money to go see him play, purchase the products he endorsed and buy his video's on playing the perfect round of golf.
There is no need to go into what he did because that was publicized enough in the papers, magazines and on TV.
The other day everyone was abuzz about Tiger Woods getting on television and apologizing to everyone for the mistakes he made in life, hoping that all will be forgiven. Will it? I, as others do think that he did it so he could get back into the game and start raking in the money that he is losing from his lost endorsements. Let him wallow in his shame as other common folk do when they don't have the chance to say I'm sorry. People have done a lot less and are never forgiven.
I guess money speaks as it did for some politicians over the years.

LEARNING YOUR A, B, C'S

It's every ones desire to hear their child say their first words. Maybe it's daddy, or mommy or the most common first word NO. After that it's going on to the cute little things and even greater things like their ABC's. At what age do children do these things? Some do it early in life and some of course later.
In Tacoma, Washington an Army sergeant pleaded guilty to using water torture on his 4 year old daughter to force her to learn her ABC's. He is accused of pulling his daughter's head backward into the kitchen sink and letting water run onto her face because she would not recite her ABC's.
It's too bad that our laws do not allow for "an eye for an eye" and I hope mom was not there watching and doing nothing about it.

WHY HAVE SECURITY GUARDS?

This comes from Seattle. A young girl of 15 years of age was punched, knocked to the ground, kicked in the head and robbed in a downtown Seattle bus tunnel. The article didn't say what condition the girl was in but I'm sure it is not good.
Was there help near by, YES, did they help NO. The help was three tunnel security guards. Although unarmed I'm sure they could have done something since there were three of them. The guards actions, which were caught on surveillance video have prompted a review of the policy that unarmed civilian guards call police and not try to stop fights or crimes. WHY HAVE THEM and yes the policy should be looked into. It would be nice to know just what are their duties. What a world with stupid policies.

A WALK IN THE SNOW

First let me say HAPPY VALENTINES DAY to one and all.
I said those words to my love yesterday as I delivered yellow roses to her. I had to walk in 6 inches of snow to visit her. I was able to find her by the wreath I placed for her for Christmas. I brushed away the snow that covered her headstone and placed 12 yellow roses. The roses were not real because of the cold weather but the words I LOVE YOU were real and she knows it. She was taken from me four years ago on February 13, 2006 at the age of 60.
I will never forget nor stop loving her as she will forever be in my heart and mind.
Happy Valentines Day sweetheart.

GOOD MOVE BY SCHOOL BOARD OR GOVT?

When y0u send your child to school you would think that those in charge of our children would watch out for them. Teach them and give them the proper tools to get them to their adult life as prepared as possible.
My grand daughter has a speech problem as did her brother. Her brother was sent to a speech therapist in his school and today you would never know he had a problem.
I must say that a times it is very hard to understand my grand daughter because she does no use the letter r. She is a lovely child and is a good student. The rule was that no speech therapy was given until the child reached 9 years of age. In 2009 that rule was changed and now it states that a student will receive speech therapy only if it affects their grades. In the meantime, I'm sure there are other children with the same problem, they have to endure being made fun of by other students and will have this problem in their later lives. Why can't they include these children with those who have this problem and are not good students. Isn't speaking clearly a way of communicating that is very important in today's way of life. Sending a child to a speech therapist on your own is very expensive and my grand daughter's parents cannot afford this.
Who makes these decisions? Are these Federal cuts?
Whoever made these decisions must have their heads up their anal exits.

WEEEEEEE FOR WII

A couple of months ago my doctor told me I had to lose weight and exercise more. Actually it was last year. I was gung ho about it so I started dieting and I bought a walking machine, you know what that is, did good for awhile and then stopped. Saw my Dr. again two months ago and he said the same thing. I just can't get into a morning, afternoon or evening ritual.
My granddaughter got a WII for Christmas and it seemed like a lot of fun.
Yesterday I bought one using some reward cards I received from Best Buy and ATT. By using those cards it only cost me $90.00. With it came a game cartridge called WII Sport. On it is tennis, bowling, baseball, golf and boxing. This unit is one of the most fun things I ever had. Not only am I having fun playing the games but I can actually work up a sweat which means that I am working out. When I play these games I lose track of time and before I know it I have been playing for an hour or more. Each game is designed to work your whole body which is great for me. By using this unit I think, no, I know that I can do what the doctor ordered.
I also have the WII Fit and it told me that I am obese and have the body of a 75 year old man. I am 69.
Those of you who have one know what I am talking about. Glad I bought it.

THE WAIT IS OVER.

The long awaited day for the return of my daughters fiancee arrived on Tuesday. Fort Hood was all hustle and bustle awaiting arrival of the troops. The troops were arriving at 4:15 pm so said the official voice on the phone when my daughter was called and given this information. Her boss, I guess, felt guilty for not giving her enough time to pick up the kids and get to Ft. Hood. She was letting her off at 3:30. Ad it turned out she let her off at 2:00.
Before going to the greeting area it was required that you had to get a visitors pass. There was only one person issuing these passes and my daughter was number 727 and it was already getting close to arrival time. She got her pass, got the kids put into the car and off to the air field they went. They got there with no time to spare.
You could not see the troops get off of the planes but when they did arrive they were on buses. All visitors were in the bleachers and standing around the bleachers when the buses pulled up. The exit doors were facing away from the crowd so that the troops could exit the buses and get into formation. After about 20 minutes the spectators started yelling "move the buses" and they did reveling the many troops standing in formation. There was a short ceremony and then they were released.
Can you imagine almost 1000 people trying to find each other. My daughters phone started ringing and her boyfriend was asking where she was. Fortunately she was standing next to a woman who was holding several yellow balloons. With that as a guide they finally met.
Among all who were there, there were many hugs, kisses and tears.
When Jereme and Lorri met he dropped to one knee and said I have something cool to show you and went into his bag and pulled out a beautiful ring and said "will you marry me" and of course the answer was yes. Lorri looked at the kids and smiled and both Angelica and Spencer, my grand kids were crying.
I guess you could call that a happy ending to a busy day.
God Bless Lorri and Jereme and all of the men and women in the armed forces around the world.

TODAY IS THE LONG AWAITED DAY.

Today my daughters fiancee comes home from Iraq. God Bless him and all that come home with him.
My daughter has the whole house decorated, inside and out, with balloons and banners. One thing is wrong. The woman she works for will not let her off in time to see the plane come in. The plane arrives at 4:30 and the woman is letting her off at 3:30. Lorri has to pick up the kids from school, drive to Ft Hood and get a visitors pass and drive to the area where the plane is coming in. THIS CAN'T BE DONE IN AN HOUR LADY. WAKE UP.
There is no reason she could have not taken the entire day off. Or does she have to, even though it is not her job, pick up the dog crap in your yard and watch you new born grandchild. Even two or three hours would have been fine. All involved have been waiting for this day a long time. Your daughters husband is coming home too, is she not able to go meet him?
This is not being the good Christian that you say you are.
NUF SAID. IRATE FATHER.

BOB PRESTI IS 70!!!!!!

I am going to my brother-in-law and sister-in-laws home today to spend the night with them. It is a special occasion with that occasion being my brother-in-law Bob's big 70th year birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOB. There will be some other family members present to enjoy the day with Bob and we will have, I am sure, a good meal and desert.
I have known Bob for 44 years. One year prior to marrying my wife Andie, until how. That was back in 1965. As long as I have known him he has always been a stand up guy. Being there whenever you need him. He comes from a family of, I believe, 12 children of which he is the youngest. His sister will be there to enjoy this day with him.
Once again HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a fine fellow, Bob.
If you have noticed I have not made fun of him because of his reaching 70 and that is because I will also reach that age in June.

WHEN WILL THEY UNDERSTAND?

This particular story comes from Mesa, Arizona and involves two teenagers, 17 year old brother and a 16 year old sister.
The sister drove her brother, Dwight J. Brock Jr. to a shopping mall for whatever reason. Upon dropping him off they started goofing around with him jumping in front of the car and her slamming on the brakes to avoid hitting him. The last time he jumped in front of the car she was unable to stop and ran him over. Dwight was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later died.
What a tragic end to such a young person. Kids just don't realize what can happen when they do things like that. I'm sure his sister will never forget what she did even though is was an accident and the parents must deal with the loss of a child.
In the hands of some people a car is a weapon that they can't control.
This brings up a question of should kids be able to drive a car at the age of 16? Go to the BMV and watch the number of parents that come in with their kids who are of legal age but look as if they are 10 years old and maybe with the same mentality.
Adults should use common sense before letting a child drive and not just think of the fact that they will not have to drive them arond any more.

NICE EVENING WITH FRIENDS.

Yesterday it was bitter cold and I was sitting at home doing nothing. My friends, Dalene and Steve called and asked it I would like to go to Michigan City, Indiana to see their light display along the lake front. I was picked up at 5:00 and off we went. It is a good drive to where we were going. Along the way we had good conversation and laughs which helped us forget our troubles.
Steve and Dalene have been going to this display for at least 10 years and they said it was worth the trip. It was. It was free and they had hundreds of lighted displays. Santa's, bears, fire trucks, light houses and many many more displays that were just beautiful. We drive around taking our time to take in all the lights. I must add at this point that the display at Hidden Lake in, I believe, is located in Merrillville, Indiana where you have to pay to get in is a big loser compared to Michicgan City.
After leaving the light display, food became the topic and the place chosen was Matty's steak and sea food in Michicgan City located near the light display. I chose the fish and chip basket. Basket it was not. The food came on a huge platter with 8 pieces of fish and tons of waffle fries, prior to that I had a salad. The desert for the day was a warm brownie with chocolate syrup with ice cream on the side. When that came the brownie was huge and an ice cream ball on each side with a dot of red syrup on top of each. Dalene commented that she had never seen desert come with breasts before. That is what the ice cream balls resembled. When the bill came, my money wasn't any good. The good food and desert took it's toll on me because my sugar level when I took it this morning was 242. Not good. But then again I don't do that every day.
When we left the eating establishment is was almost a full scale blizzard because Michicgan City was to get almost 10 inches of snow. As we drove closer to Schererville the snow had stopped and this morning we had nothing.
I want to say thanks to Steve and Dalene for a wonderful fun filled evening with great lights, food and of course company.
