The Easter basket can be traced to German folklore. The Easter Hare was a white rabbit that left colored eggs for good children on the of Jesus' Resurrection.
Immigrants brought the tradition to the United States in the 18th century. By the 19th century, the hare had evolved into a bunny bearing treat baskets.
That's how I remember it as a child, but like Christmas it got out of hand. I saw an add in the paper the other day advertising toys saying give your child what they didn't get for Christmas. Again the true spirit of the holiday has been set aside to give the retailers a bigger bottom line. This is a sick world.
For those of you who still remember the meaning of Easter Sunday, have a very Happy Easter and be safe.
