THE CIRCUS

Yesterday, Monday, there was the Orak Shrine Circus at the Lake County Fairgrounds. Odd day to have a circus but then again the kids are out of school. There were free passes for the kids given out at school and in some stores. Two kids got in free with one paying adult. $14.00 for an adult ticket which is not bad and going to a good cause. The Shriner's. It was an overcast day and the performance was being held outdoors with us sitting on metal bleachers. About a half hour before the show it started raining. My two granddaughters and I were sitting on the top seat and fortunate to be sitting under the branch of a tree. The rain lasted about 15 minutes and stopped but it remained overcast which was a good thing because the sun would have been in our eyes.

Half hour before the show started the vendors were released to sell their wares. Remembering the faces of the vendors I discovered that these same people were performers on the trapeze, acrobatic acts and so on. But anyway with the selling of these items brought a large void in ones wallet. Snow cones $5.00, popcorn and cotton candy, nachos and hot dogs $3.00, balloons, drinks and programs $2.00. Elephant rides $8.00 and pony rides $6.00. Last but not least, on the way out, was the souvenir booth with the price of 2 stuffed elephants $15.00 each. Times all of the by 2 and it totals an expensive day but the expression on my granddaughters faces was priceless. The circus itself was a great show with a lot of flair and excitement and you could see that the performers put all they had into giving a good performance. There was one act I will never forget. It was a round cage in which held first, three motor bikes going around and around and ended with 6 going around and around at high speeds. Very good.

Should you ever get a chance to see the Orak Shrine Circus, do so. It will be a day well spent with the kids.
