WHAT IS ABUSE?

Today I received my notice from the Social Security Admin about how much my monthly Medicare medical insurance will by and the grand figure of how much will be deposited to checking account. I was happy to see that nothing changed as it will for some people. I want to thank our leaders for that. At the same time I am not happy with our leaders for not giving us seniors a cost of living increase this year and also the next. But wait didn't the House and Senate vote to give themselves raises of $4700 and $5300. And let's not forget our Congressmen who added $10,000 to their salary putting them almost to a $200,000 salary per year.
What are we seniors supposed to do, collect aluminum cans to make ends meet.
REMEMBER there is another election coming in 2010. Why don't all you do gooders remember what happened this year and when election time comes look for new leaders and bring change again, this time for the better.

DA BEARS!

Since my wife passed I really got interested in football. I follow Notre Dame, the Colts and the Chicago Bears.
As for Notre Dame this year, what can you say. They will have a new coach and some new players next year and hopefully will improve their game.
The Colts had a 14-0 season until Sunday when they coach pulled the regular players out of the game and put the rookies in. When Painter, the young quarterback went in everything went down hill and the Colts wound up loosing their winning streak. If you saw the looks on Peyton Manning's face whenever the camera was on him, he didn't look too happy.
Where did the Bears come from? Cutler was playing like there was no tomorrow. They were winning but then the Vikings came back and tied the game 30-30 and the game went into over-time. With a fantastic pass by Cutler which was caught in the end zone for a touchdown and the Bears won 36-30. Exciting games like that are good for the heart. HAHAHAHAH.

LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED.

My grand daughter, Delaney, had to get out of the house today so we went and picked up my $7.00 from Heavenly Ham because I forgot the coupon on Christmas Eve and was told to bring my receipt and coupon back and they would honor the coupon and give me $7.00. That's the way to do business. From there we went to Pet Smart to look at the fish, cats and other mammals that are there as well as the current animal toys. And then it was off to McDonalds for a well earned meal of chicken nuggets for me and a double cheeseburger kids meal for Delaney. With our stomachs full we headed for the Dollar Tree where everything is $1.00. Being the big spender that I am I let her pick our two things. WOW. With Christmas just a few days past she is lucky she got that.
What my title suggests, LIKE IT NEVER HAPPENED, refers to Christmas. All Christmas merchandise was in the back corner and taking it's place up front were hundreds of Valentines Day items. From cards, candy, artificial roses and other kinds of flowers and any other love me tender items they could squeeze onto the shelves. It saddened me to see how quickly Christmas had disappeared. Lets keep it in our hearts.

THERE WAS A BLANKET OF WHITE THIS MORNING.

It started yesterday afternoon and continued into the evening. This morning there was a blanket of white fluffy stuff that covered everything. It was beautiful. There were cars parked on the street which didn't help the plowing situation. The plowing started about 10:00 last night and went on all night. I live in a division where they plow our driveways sidewalks and streets.
As I was having coffee and reading the newspaper this morning I noticed a police car pull up and park behind two cars that were parked in the street. I was curious so I watched from my window and sure enough the policeman got out of his car, dusted off the plates and proceeded to write a ticket for each car. In total there were three police cars driving through the sub-division writing tickets for the many cars on the street. The village, I'm sure, made a fortune this morning.
But I still say the snow looked beautiful.

PRETTY LIGHTS

When my wife and I got married in 1965 we started driving around a few days before Christmas looking at the various displays in the neighborhood and surrounding areas. We did this every year and when we had kids this tradition I guess you would call it continued. The oooohhhh's and aaaaahhhhh's continued from the kids until they got to an age where the word boring came into play and they didn't want to go anymore. My wife and I continued this alone until grand kids came along and we started to take them with us. The same ooohhhh's and aaaaahhhh's came from the back seat and soon the word boring appeared again. When my wife passed four years ago I stopped going because it wasn't the same without her.
Last night I went shopping and on the way home I decided to drive around and look at displays myself just like in the OLD DAYS. As I drove through my old neighborhood it amazed me that people who were decorating their homes 20 years ago still have the same display. Some have moved and the new folks also decorate. For the old timers, some have added to their displays to make their homes more beautiful than before.
I was pleased to see how many people added Jesus, Joseph and Mary to their displays to remind those who see it that there is another reason to remember other than Santa and gifts.
After riding around for about an hour I headed home with a good feeling in my heart and I will do this again next Christmas.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!

SUPERHERO OR SUPERMAN?

I don't know about you but I am getting tired of all the articles in the paper that are about rape, killing or whatever else people can do to each other. It is rare that we come across a good heart warming article. I found one in today's paper that I would like to share with you.
This story happened in Ottawa, Kansas. Nick Harris was driving his 8 year old daughter to school last week and noticed a car backing out of a driveway. The car ran over a 6 year old little girl. Mr. Harris jumped out of his car and ran over to the other car where he grabbed the rear end of car and lifted as hard as he could to get the tire off of the little girl. The little girl escaped with minor injuries. Mr. Harris said the best thanks he received is when he visited the girl later that day. She gave him a hug and a kiss and said "Thanks Superman".
I don't know about you but I would like to read more heart warming stories about other people doing good deeds.
Nice work Nick Harris of Ottawa. Kansas.

ARE THEY NOT IN THE CHRISTMAS SPIRIT.

Today was a day or running around getting last minute shopping done. As a diabetic I should eat something in the morning, but noooooooo I wanted to get out and get that shopping done. I left the house around 10 and went from one store to another and then realized that I had not eaten anything that morning except for two cups of coffee.
I was getting hungry so I stopped at Wendy's for a hamburger. I got my food and sat down to fill myself and after about 15 minutes it dawned on me that this Wendy's did not have any Christmas decorations anywhere to be found. Odd since all other eating places and stores are playing Christmas music and have decorations all over the place. I wonder, is Wendy's the hum-bug of the eating establishments or maybe they just don't care.
Merry Christmas all who work for Wendy's.

TIME IS GETTING CLOSE.

In November there is a hint of the approaching Christmas because of the commercials on television and things appearing in stores. But things really heat up for the youngsters in the month of December when the Christmas tree goes up and Santa is in the stores ready to hear what you have on your list and to have your picture taken with the jolly old fellow. The excitement grows even more when teachers in school start talking about upcoming parties and Santa's Secret Workshop sales that will be held at school. This is where you spend a fortune and get very little so the kids will have something to give to grandma, grandpa, dad, teacher and whomever else they wish to surprise on Christmas.
As the big day grows near every child seems to behave better than ever and I swear that there is a halo around them that for these few weeks make your child look angelic. At least that is my opinion.
With this in mind I want to wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

P.S. If you are still looking for that special gift, you might want to consider purchasing AVON online from my daughters website at www.youravon.com/lorrioconnor. It can be shipped directly to you from their warehouse.

WOULD YOU EAT IT.

I click on blogs through ENTRECARD. It's fun and there are many, many interesting and funny bloggers out there.
There is one thing I must say and this is geared to the cooks and people who put recipes for all to see, read, cook or bake. There are many good ones and I am glad that you folks share your favorite or ethnic meals. It opens up a whole new world for our taste buds. These is one thing that you might want to consider before sharing with us and that is "should I take a picture of this dish". The reason I say this is that although it looks good on a plate and presented well on your table, it may look entirely different in a picture that you share with us. Sometime the colors come out different and then it doesn't look good. Some do and some do not.
Please keep supply us with your favorite dishes because they are truly wonderful. Being alone I do use many of them.
THANK YOU.

HERE I SIT.

Got the grandkids off to school this morning and after that read the paper. When I got finished with that it was time for my programs to start. Match Game, Family Fued, Lets Made A Deal and The Price is Right and to finish it off I watch the eleven o'clock news. After all that it is ho hum what do I do now. The answer to that today was put up the Christmas tree. That I did. I always enjoy doing that and seeing the special ornaments that my wife and I and the kids made over the years. I'm 69 so there are quite a few memories hanging on the tree. With all the boxes put away and the floor vacuumed it was time to eat dinner and watch some tv. I think I fell asleep in the rocking chair around 10 and woke up at 2:30, shut everything off and went to bed. Tossed and turned and tossed and turned. Heard the clock chime at 3 and again at 4, still wasn't asleep at 4:30 so I got up, put on a pot of coffee, started a load of clothes and now here I sit in front of the computer writing this after checking e-mails.
Received an e-mail from my daughters boy friend in Iraq and he asked me for permission to marry my daughter. This came last week. Today I received another e-mail with a picture of the ring he ordered from a jeweler in New York. She doesn't know about the ring so she will be surprised. Good luck to them.
